Many players may have expected more character customization in Elex 2 than we got in the original Elex. Some players requested the ability to choose a female Jax and customizable features and race for Jax.
Unfortunately, character customization is not available in Elex 2. In Elex 2, you play as Jax, who has an identical buzzcut and appearance as Cole MacGrath in Infamous. Changing Jax's armor and headgear is the most you can do. Most RPGs nowadays offer character customization as a basic feature, but Elex 2 opted to stick with one character appearance.
The game also requires you to make choices, but few quests are open-ended. In fact, only a few quests have different endings depending on the choices made by the player. As far as personality goes, you can make Jax as mean or nice as you like. Jax's personality affects his Destruction meter, which determines how NPCs view you in the game.
Jax looks pretty generic, so it shouldn't be too difficult to put yourself in his shoes (hopefully). And when you put on some armor and a helmet, it covers up a lot of Jax's body. You can cover up the generic character if you don't like him so that you can immerse yourself more in the game.
