Now, the most important aspect of every Gacha and idle RPG is getting your hands on top-tier characters for your team. This can be done through summoning, but there are three kinds of summoning in Enigma of Sepia, namely Elite Summon, Friend Summon, and Faction Summon. Among them, Elite and Faction are the ones you need to focus on.

There's around a 1% chance to pull an SSR+ character from Elite Summon, and 0.1% to get a UR rarity one. While on the Faction summon, an SSR+ or a UR is guaranteed every 10 draws. If you're unhappy with your pulls, you can always choose to reroll your account by logging out and changing servers. If you want to know how to do it in detail, check out our reroll guide.

With over 40 different characters to summon and choose from, it can be quite confusing on which ones to focus on and invest your resources. So, to help you choose the right ones, here are the best units in Enigma of Sepia:

  1. Satoria: If you're looking for a core AoE damage dealer from the Mastery Faction, then Satorina is the best pick. Her skill set is overall balanced and works like a charm if built correctly.
  2. Chronis: Excelling at debuffs and sustained fights, Chronis provides a much better skillset for PvP and boss fights. She can inflict strong debuffs while gradually getting stronger.
  3. Saguina: The best character from the Legend Faction, Saguina has an extremely overpowered skillset. While she's very strong, she's equally hard to get, especially if you're an F2P player.
  4. Sepia: The only other Legend Faction substitute, that you can star up decently because of the newbie events. With the right build, she can be quite good in any game mode.

Apart from the above ones, there's Giselle who is arguably the best SSR+ and has tons of use in PvE and PvP modes. For F2P players, Little Sai and Nova with 10+ stars are also great for mid to late-game usage. For a detailed look, check out our tier list for Enigma of Sepia.

How to build characters in Enigma of Sepia

As you might've seen, the core of your team isn't the character itself, but how you build them. So, to help you build your units correctly, here's a detailed overview:

  1. Star Up: The first thing you need to do is star up your characters, using character as well as universal shards. At 6✦, you'll unlock your character's 50% power, and at 10✦ they'll be at full power.
  2. Cabala Tree: The Cabala Tree determines your character's Life Skills which can turn the tide of your battle. With four different paths, namely Spirit, Creation, Origin, and Matter, choose them wisely to make your unit even more powerful. Do note, that this function is unlocked when a unit reaches 6✦.
  3. Gear & Scrolls: Finally, you need to equip the right Gear Sets and Scroll skills to make sure that your character has enhanced DPS and passive skills to provide better value to your team.

Apart from the above, it is recommended that when you're building your characters, your team's core or the best unit should be at least 100 levels higher than your remaining units.

Your team's formation is what matters in the late-game and PvP modes. If you haven't optimized your lineup, then even with top-tier characters you'll be losing. So, here are some good lineups to use in Enigma of Sepia:

Best PvE Lineup

Characters: Eclipsea (Core), Satoria (Sub Core), Little Rasi, Sylvia, Eldwyn, Lumina

Essentially a one-shot lineup against PvE and Boss-fights. Every character stacks up Bleed debuffs and then deals a massive burst with Eclipsea's Rage skill.

Best PvP Lineup

Characters: Carmilla (Core), Chronis (Sub Core), Ivy Lynn, Nora Zorana, Bipolaris, Ginara

Arguably the best lineup for PvP, excelling in Defense and Counter attacks. Decreases opponent's skill triggers while dishing out massive DPS and counterattacks.

Best F2P Lineup

Characters: Lumina (Core), Elysia (Sub Core), Little Rasi, Scientia, Cheshire, Eclipsea

Relatively easy to acquire the characters and star up to 10✦. Works well in every mode, and has great synergy among units. Overall quite balanced.
