Escape From Tarkov: How to Extract and Extraction Point Locations Guide

Escape From Tarkov is an increasingly popular hardcore shooter experience that challenges you to head out into huge maps and scavenge for loot. It’s a lot like a battle royale in that respect, with one key difference: if you make it safely out of a game within the time limit, you get to keep everything you’ve picked up.

That’s where extraction comes in, which we’re going to focus on in this guide. Put briefly, extraction is your means of escaping the battle alive. There are numerous different extraction points on each map but you can only use one of up to three per match. You can check available extraction points at any moment, and each differs in method of extraction. We’ll cover this in more depth later in this guide.

What is Extraction?

Extraction is your method of leaving a battle with all of the loot you’ve acquired intact. Each map has a number of different extraction points, though you can only use one of three specific extraction points during each raid. These change randomly each time you go to play, so it’s worth checking the extraction points available to you each time you start a new raid. You can do this at any point by double tapping the O key to bring up your available extraction points.

You don’t get to see each extraction point on the map, so you’ll need to learn the various different points over time. Instead, you just get the name of the extraction point. At this point you’ll probably notice that certain extraction points have question marks after their name, while others don’t. Extraction points without question marks simply mean you can reach this location and extract. If there are question marks, extraction will require further action, like paying Rubles, finding a key, or powering a door.

How to Extract

How you extract can depend on numerous different factors. As we mentioned in the previous section, if a location has question marks by its name when you double tap O while in a raid, it will require you to perform an action. Those that don’t have question marks simply require you to reach the location to extract. Also, it’s worth noting that you can only extract from the locations detailed when you tap O twice during a raid. The rest of the extraction locations on that map are unavailable during that raid.

The actions you may have to perform to extract include:

  • Paying Rubles
  • Finding a specific key
  • Providing power
  • Having a small, or no, backpack
  • Pressing a button

It gets even more confusing when you realise that the requirements can change depending on numerous factors, including the time of day or just at random. It’s best to be prepared for any eventuality when playing Escape From Tarkov.
