Buy anchors and jack-screws
Anchors and jack-screws are among the best tools in the game, and they've helped me get out of tough spots on numerous occasions. If your truck's inventory allows it, buy least two packs of each before every mission, even if you end up not using them at all.
The jack-screw's ability to flip your truck to a horizontal position makes it a priceless tool, while anchors offer more versatility. Using an anchor, you can push and pull your truck to help you traverse the terrain, so be sure to use both of its functions when the situation calls.
Follow totem points
Totem points are useful guideposts found across all types of terrain in Expeditions. They consist of a wooden pillar with a canoe oar pointing towards a safe path, helping you determine the best way to traverse the map. Although they always show the safest path, that doesn't mean the path isn't without its dangers—approach with caution.
Lay off the throttle
Sometimes, you'll find yourself in a clearing with seemingly no obstacles in sight, and you'll feel the temptation to floor it and go full speed ahead. As fun as speeding may seem, you'll make more progress by driving slowly and carefully to avoid unnecessary damage to your truck.
In the same vein, when you're trying to make your way up a steep rocky cliff or out of a mudhole, never go full throttle. Too much throttle will cause wheel spin, which makes it hard for the wheel to gain traction and unnecessarily wastes fuel. Slowly applying increasingly more pressure to the acceleration button will help you get out of tricky situations more than you might think.
Explore and plan your route
Once you unlock free roam in a region, start exploring the map to discover new potential paths, missions, and locations. That way, you'll be able to plan out your route as soon as you start an expedition, helping you complete tasks quickly and efficiently.
Upgrade winch
The winch is the ultimate device at your disposal, letting you use trees, branches, and anchors as leverage to pull your truck out of a gutter. Besides upgrading your truck's specs, invest in winch upgrades whenever you can to increase its range and power. A powerful winch can bridge the gap between different truck classes, making your scout trucks perform similarly to a proper off-road truck.
