Best Materia list and how to get them in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

There are numerous materias to be discovered in FF7 Rebirth. Here are some of the best you can acquire for your party!

Steadfast Block

Steadfast Block materia is one of the most useful skills in the game for Barret and Red XIII. As we showcased in our Red XIII Builds, Red XIII takes advantage of the decreased enemy damage and at the same time, fills his ATB gauge much faster while blocking.

Fortunately, the Steadfast Block materia is very easy to acquire, as you only need to complete the mission Combat Training: Synergy in Chadley's Combat Simulator. You can do this as soon as you escape from Kalm and go to the Chocobo Ranch in the Grasslands.

AP Up

AP Up comes in handy when it comes to leveling and grinding your materias to upgrade them to the next level. You can easily get this while you're in the Mythril Mines after Barret and Red XIII go after the robed man who fell into the depths of the mining area.

Auto-Cast

Auto-Cast is a very useful materia, especially if you don't want to bother micro-managing your entire party throughout a fight. It essentially allows the A.I. to automatically cast a linked materia without needing any player commands. You can get this support materia from Chadley's Materia Development in the Grasslands.

This materia is essential to our A.I. Barret build as you can basically leave him be while you fight the enemies with your main characters, and Barret will still heal you whenever you get low on health. You can also use this for Aerith if you want her to cast a specific spell automatically during enemy encounters.

Enemy Skill

Enemy Skill is one of the most broken materias in Final Fantasy Rebirth. Any character that has this materia equipped will be able to cast Enemy Skills like Soothing Breeze, Sonic Boom, or even Plasma Discharge.

If you're looking for a solid build, check out our Tifa Build, wherein we showcase the damaging prowess of Tifa with Plasma Discharge. Every ATB gauge you build procs a Plasma Discharge (lightning element), and since Tifa can charge her ATB gauge a lot quicker than other characters, you know what's bound to happen to your enemies.

Precision Defense Focus

Precision Defense Focus gives you a better "parry" window, which means you get more time to perfect block an attack, rendering you immune even to blocked damage. Red XIII and Cloud come to mind when it comes to this materia, as they both excel in countering enemy attacks.

Although Red XIII already has this materia by default, Cloud can get his own Precision Defense Focus materia in the Grasslands area (check the map above). You need to have a Chocobo to get to the island that contains a ton of resources and this materia.

Elemental

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be a spellblade beast or spellfists monster for Tifa, then you'll need the Elemental Materia. This materia allows your character to imbue their normal attacks with the element of the spell it's linked to (i.e. Element Materia - Fire would mean your character now has fire-based normal attacks).

You can get this materia from Chadley's Combat Simulator with the mission called Junon Battle Intel: Conqueror of the Skies. Since this materia is a double-edged sword, I recommend only using this on boss fights with specific weaknesses like Phoenix.

Provoke

Provoke is another essential materia for your tanks. It allows the A.I. to automatically cast Provoke, which will taunt the enemies, resulting in your tanks taking the enemy aggro away from your other party members.

You can obtain this materia from the mission Grasslands Battle Intel: Natural Order from Chadley. Barret and Red XIII are your main candidates for this materia as they have an insanely high amount of HP compared to the rest of the party.

Cleansing

Cleansing is another vital materia that you should have on at least one member of your party. It grants you the spell Poisona, which is very helpful for some early-game enemies. Once you upgrade the materia, you can cast Esuna and Resist at max level.

To obtain the Cleansing Materia, you'll need to complete the side quest Where the Wind Blows. You'll need a Quetzalcoatl Talon to fix the windmill. After you transmute the parts needed, a cutscene will play, and you'll see the materia drop from the blades of the windmill.

Magic Efficiency

If you're a sorceress supreme Aerith enjoyer, then Magic Efficiency should help solve your early-game dilemma for Aerith's MP. Since you don't have much access to your Folio Nodes yet, this can be a temporary solution to lessen your spell's MP cost. You can grab the Magic Efficiency materia from Chadley's Materia Development in the Junon Region.
