Mythril Mine isn’t one of my favorite spots in Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, mostly because of how the environment is shared. If you’re stuck looking for the way up as Barret and Red XIII, this is the guide for you.
How to get out of Mythril Mine Depths in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
To leave the bottom of Mythril Mine, the only thing you need to remember is to keep going up. Let’s start in this big room with too many explorable spaces.
Move to this east point on the map. Look for rocks you can climb and climb left. If you climb right, you’ll reach a mineral deposit instead.
Once you’ve reached the next “floor,” have Barret blast all the crystals until you can see more rock ledges to climb. They’re a little difficult to spot, to the point where I missed it so many times in my playthrough.
From here, it’s easy. Follow the next area to its end until you reach a lever. Pull the cart to the left to grab the chest first. Then, switch it to turn the tracks to the right. Pull the cart to create a stepping zone.
Eventually, you'll see Cloud and the others waiting for you on the other side of a cavern. Let's help them walk across by building a bridge.
This next puzzle involves pulling the mine cart all the way to the edge of the tracks and having it land on the giant crate to serve as a bridge. When it falls, Cloud's party will open the previously shut gate, and you'll be let through. You're almost on your way out.
How to defeat Mythril Golem in FF7 Rebirth
The only thing that stands between you and freedom is Mythril Golem. If you accidentally entered the Mythril Mine before you can explore more of the Grasslands, there's a chance that you could be underleveled and underequipped for the fight.
Using Assess will reveal two important things about Mythril Golem:
- It's weak to Lightning
- It's strong against Physical Attacks
Given Barret and Red XIII's very not-magically inclined kits, it's no wonder we're struggling with that stagger gauge. Even if you use the Folio-unlocked Lightning Ability Electric Impulse, it won't do much damage compared to actual magic. The only way to stand a fighting chance is to equip both Barret and Red XIII with a Lightning Materia.
Mythril Golem will continuously summon extra parts (Head, Arms, Spine) to protect its body from your attacks. Only when attacking these extra parts should you use Lightning to conserve MP. Mythril Golem's stagger gauge can be filled with Barret's Focused Shot and Red XIII's Overspin (hold Square). Once it's down, you're free to use your Folio-unlocked Elemental Abilities that aren't Fire.
In the final phase, Mythril Golem will regenerate them unless it's staggered. Only in that phase should you ever think about using Lighting all out.
Do not use your AP gauges unless it's to cast Lightning, throw an item, or cast Cure until it is staggered.
For items, it helps to craft Mist Potion, which grants your party 350 HP using a single AP gauge. An alternative is giving either Barret or Red XIII your Prayer Materia.
