How to level up Materia fast in FF7 Rebirth

Why farm hard when you can farm smart?

Leveling up Materia in FF7 Rebirth can be a daunting task, especially since the game now has several semi-open world areas. Here's how you can level up your materias fast in FF7 Rebirth.

Fast Materia leveling guide in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has very expansive semi-open world areas, you may be thinking that running into enemies in the wild is the best place to farm for AP. Well, it's very inefficient since you have to spend your precious items like Cushions and Potions. Also, enemies are very spaced out from each other in each region, unlike in Remake.

That said, here are the most efficient solutions I found.

Best Area and Difficulty setting for materia leveling

First Conclusion: Use Chadley's Combat Simulator and set your game difficulty to Easy Mode!

For the most efficient Materia leveling, Chadley's Combat Simulator is the key since you'll always recover health after every round, and you can't use items either way. On top of that, there are hordes of enemies per round, which you can freely farm forever.

Since Final Fantasy 7 Remake does not punish you for lowering your difficulty. This means you'll still get the same EXP and AP regardless of your in-game difficulty. Nevertheless, I still checked if this mechanic still applies to FF7 Rebirth, and luckily, it still does!

Second Conclusion: Grasslands Region Intel Level 1 is the best challenge for Materia Leveling!

Let's take a look at some of the options you have on the Combat Simulator. The most enemies within a single challenge lie within the Region Intel missions.

For the early game, I took a look at both Grasslands Region Intel and Junon Region Intel. I also computed the average time (from five different runs) to clear the entire challenge. I'm mainly using the Lightning Punch Tifa Build for the run so I can clear the enemies as fast as possible.

Here's how they stack up against each other.

Grasslands Region Intel Level 1

  • Insectoid Chimera x 3 - 1 AP each, a total of 3 AP
  • Kyuvildun x 3 - 1 AP each, a total of 3 AP
  • Velociwing x 3 - 2 AP each, a total of 6 AP
  • Orc x 4 - 1 AP each, a total of 4 AP
  • Grasslands Wolf x 4 - 3 AP each, a total of 12 AP

Base AP Total = 28 AP per run

AP Up Total = 56 AP per run

Average time (Without Loading Screen): 38 seconds per run

Junon Region Intel Level 1

  • Bandit x 2 and Crawler x 2 - 2 AP each, a total of 8 AP
  • Ignilisk x 3 - 1 AP each, a total of 3 AP
  • Bandit x 3 - 2 AP each, a total of 6 AP
  • Flan x 3 - 2 AP each, a total of 6 AP
  • Fleetwing x 2 and Zemzelett x 1 - 2 AP for each Fleetwing, and 3 AP for Zemzelett, a total of 7 AP

Base AP Total = 30 AP per run

AP Up Total = 60 AP per run

Average time (Without Loading Screen): 78 seconds per run

With this data, I'm able to compute the total average time including loading screens. There are five loading screens, each with roughly 10-15 seconds of wait time (averaged to about 12.5 seconds).

To shorten the long mathematical shenanigans of this methodology, here are the results of my experiment:

  • Grasslands Region Intel Level 1: 0.28 AP per second or roughly 1,002 AP per hour (without AP Up) and 2,004 AP per hour (with AP Up).
  • Junon Region Intel Level 1: 0.21 AP per second or roughly 768 AP per hour (without AP up) and 1536 AP per hour (with AP up).

I will use this methodology to find the best farming spot for the mid to late game as well, without all the crazy numbers included. So stay tuned as I update this article in the following days to find the most efficient and fastest materia leveling location as much as possible!
