Cait Sith General Gameplay Overview
Cait Sith generally plays as a buff machine for your entire party. He thrives on supporting your team with various buffs to increase speed, damage, and defense. His general gameplay revolves around two phases: his regular cat form and his Let's Ride form.
The regular cat form does nothing special by itself, but when you summon your Moogle using the skill Let's Ride, Cait Sith becomes a whole different support beast. Most of Cait Sith's potential is with his Let's Ride form, so your first ATB should definitely be used to summon your Moogle.
Your Cait Sith builds will likely depend on what your party needs. Most of the time, you'll only need to add a few more support and offensive materias to widen Cait Sith's role in your team.

General Skills Overview
Let's Ride
Cait Sith will summon his robot Moogle to assist him in combat. This is your bread-and-butter skill to unlock Cait Sith's potential. Upon summoning the Moogle, your unique weapon ability will change to Dropkick and will charge up when you damage enemies.
The charging bar on your unique weapon ability is called Moogle Meter. Reaching Moogle Meter Charges 1 and 2 will have random effects. Here are all of the effects of the Moogle Meter:
Moogle Meter Charge 1 | Moogle Meter Charge 2 |
Fight! Grants entire party with Bravery and Faith | Silence Slam Attack the enemy and inflict Silence |
Defense! Grants the entire party with Protect and Shell | Stop Strike Attack the enemy and inflict Stop or Slow |
Go Wild! Grants the entire party Berserk | Toxic Tackle Attack the enemy and inflict Poison |
- | Petrify Piledrive Attack the enemy and inflict Petrify |
For an in-depth explanation of how random these effects are, think of gaining one Moogle Meter as a dice roll. The first Moogle Meter Charge has three outcomes, meaning you have a 1/3 chance of getting the buff you'll need for your party. The same goes for Moogle Charge 2, but it requires you to conserve your first Moogle Meter instead.
Dodge 'n' Dive
Dodge 'n' Dive is your standard dodge + counter-attack for Cait Sith with a twist. You can only use this skill when you have a Moogle summon, and the Moogle will flee from the field after a one-time usage. The best way to use this skill is when your Moogle's HP is running low since you're going to summon a new one anyway.
Roll o' the Dice
Another RNG-reliant skill that fits Cait Sith's quirky and humorous character. Roll o' the Dice, as the skill name suggests, has Cait Sith roll a six-sided die with different outcomes based on the number the dice lands on. Here are all of the outcomes for Roll o' the Dice:
Dice Roll | Outcome |
1 | Fire and Thunder Deal fire and lightning damage to all enemies |
2 | Hypurr Beam Unleash a homing ranged attack onto a single enemy |
3 | Wind and Ice Deal wind and ice damage to all enemies |
4 | Total Outrage Buffs the party with Fury, increased Limit charge in exchange for more damage vulnerability |
5 | Regenerative Aura Grants the party with Regen, gradually restoring health. |
6 | Expansive Shield Buffs the party with Protect and increases the entire party's defense. |

How to use Cait Sith in combat like a pro
Now that you have a general idea of Cait Sith's abilities, it's time to discuss how you can fully unleash his skills in combat.
Here's a reliable cycle that I constantly use when I control Cait Sith during fights:
- Close in on the enemies as Cait Sith, and hold Square (A.O.E. attack, fills up ATB charge rapidly)
- With one ATB gauge, use Let's Ride.
- Attack enemies with Square (while riding on the Moogle) to charge up the ATB gauge again.
- Cast Roll o' the Dice.
- Attack enemies with Triangle to fill up Moogle Meter.
- Cast Roll o' the Dice again.
- Use Moogle Meter 1 to buff your party.
- Fill up the ATB gauge with regular attacks.
- Optional Step: If the party is low on HP, use Prayer or an Enemy Skill like Soothing Breeze.
- Upon enemy stagger, use Moogle Magic (Weapon Ability from Crystal Megaphone) to cast a skill from your Summoning Materia.
- Repeat from Step 1.
I do not rely on the weapon ability Fortune Telling (Weapon Ability from Iron Megaphone) as it's not a reliable source of damage unless you have maxed out your Luck stat.
This strategy I've conjured tries to lessen the RNG as much as possible so you can have a more consistent damage output, as well as buff uptime for your party.
