The drought is over as more content is being added to Final Fantasy XIV with the addition of Patch 6.45. The second part of the 6.4 patch cycle, entitled The Dark Throne, will release on Tuesday, July 18, as per the official FFXIV Twitter page.
This update will bring tons of new content, including a Blue Mage update, new Variant Dungeons, new side quests, and more! Here’s a full breakdown of what’s coming:
Everything coming to Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.45
Here’s everything to expect in FFXIV Patch 6.45:
- Variant Dungeon - Mount Rokkon
- Criterion Dungeon - Another Mount Rokkon/Another Mount Rokkon (Savage)
- Blue Mage Update
- Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures
- Manderville Weapons
- Splendorous Tools
- New Mounts
- New Minions
- New Side Quests
With the addition of Variant and Criterion Dungeons, it’s reasonable to expect at least a dozen new mounts and minions, as well as other items such as fashion accessories and housing items. The Blue Mage Update will also raise the level cap on that class to 80, adding new spells and new gear.
The Hildibrand Adventure quests are another chance to enjoy Eorzea’s premier private detective as he engages in his hilarious and, apparently, low-polygonal adventures. This will also trigger an update to the Manderville Weapon Relic Weapon quests and Splendorous Tools Relic Tool quests.

How to get ready for FFXIV Patch 6.45
Like all patches, we have some recommendations on how to get your character ready to best enjoy the upcoming patch.
- Max out your Tomestones of all categories to make sure you can purchase any new items added
- Make sure you’ve completed the previous Variant Dungeon, Sil'dihn Subterrane, added in Patch 6.25.
- Double check you’re up to date with all the Hildibrand quests and have any Weapons or Weapons leveled up to the max if you want them to progress to the next level in the new patch.
- Make sure you haven’t sold or misplaced any of your Blue Mage gear! We’re guilty of this: Sometimes, that Level 70 gear doesn’t look too useful and gets *ahem* repurposed into Company Seals.
Overall, it's a great break from the slight lull in content we’ve had over the Summer. With lots of FFXIV fans heading into Fan Fest, and rumors of the new expansion starting to emerge, it’s time to get excited again about Final Fantasy XIV!
