One of Final Fantasy XIV’s most anticipated changes with Patch 6.1 is undoubtedly the Housing Lottery system. In theory, this system gives everyone a chance to enter a chance-based lottery for an opportunity to buy housing. Unfortunately, this system has had constant issues.
On Apr. 16, Square Enix posted an update on the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone, sharing the most common error messages they've seen with the Housing Lottery, including the following:
- There were no participants in this lottery.
- The winning number is . . . 0. May you have better luck next time.
The team has continued investigating the issues over the weekend, providing more substantial feedback as more information was available.

After deliberation between the development team and Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV apologized and further explained the issues with their system. Yoshida issued the following statement:
Firstly, we understand that this is a major issue, and are prioritizing our investigation into the matter. We are working to identify the issue in the corresponding program; however, as the process is very complex and there are many patterns involved for the lottery conditions, it will require some time to pinpoint the problem. . . As we investigate and address the issue, we will be extending the result announcement period which was previously set to end on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 7:59 a.m. (PDT) We will not enter into the next lottery cycle until the investigation is complete and the situation is addressed.
On Apr. 17, Yoshida returned to elaborate on the disorders of the Housing system. The team at Square Enix has identified the significant issues and shared them in their Lodestone blog post, explaining how the housing system will work once problems see a solution. The following cases are the most prominent issues as described by Naoki Yoshida:
- Cases where the lottery was properly conducted internally and the winner exists, but the results display the winning number as 0.
- Cases where there was a single entry in the lottery, but the results display that there was no entrant or winner.
- Cases where there is no winner despite entries being made by multiple friends or free company members.
While the problems are under review, Yoshida confirmed the team is still trying to fix the current issues and plans to address the issues again as soon as possible.
