How to fix the 'Waiting for next highlight' bug - Football Manager 2024

This bug in FM24 usually occurs when you substitute an injured player from the pitch, freezing the game and stopping you from finishing the match. There are a couple of solutions for you to try to fix the "Waiting for next highlight" error.

Change Highlights to Only Commentary - FM24

This option turns off engine highlights completely, which often fixes the issue since the match engine is the culprit behind most bugs. To activate it, follow these steps:

1. Click on the Settings icon in the top right of the screen,
2. Switch the Highlights settings to Only Commentary.

Wait for 'Waiting for next highlight' bug to resolve by itself - FM24

Football Manager 2024 players have reported letting the game run for a while can kickstart your match again. I tried leaving the game idle for 10 minutes, and the match continued like nothing happened. Worked for me!

Rewind match highlights - Football Manager 2024

Rewinding the match highlights in FM24 refreshes the match engine, so once you go back to live highlights, the match continues as normal. Here's how to do it:

1. Select the down arrow next to the Settings icon.
2. Click on the Rewind button.
3. Click the Live button, and the match should continue.

Quit the match and restart Football Manager 2024

If all else fails, all you can do is cut your losses and exit Football Manager 2024. To avoid losing all unsaved progress, make sure to have your Autosave Type set to "After Every Match." Every once in a while, press Ctrl+S to quicksave your progress.
