Multiple sources report September 18-19 launch, waiting for official Epic confirmation.
With more and more games adding Proximity Chat, an absolutely fun feature that can make even the scariest experiences hilarious, it makes sense that Fortnite is also finally adding this feature to Battle Royale, even if it's only to one specific game mode. Here's everything we know on when exactly it drops, what we know about Delulu, and more.
TL;DR
- Reportedly, Proximity Chat comes to Fortnite on September 18/19, 2025
- Feature is already available in Creative/UEFN
- Not confirmed yet by Epic Games
Fortnite Battle Royale Proximity Chat Release Time
While we don't have an official confirmation from Epic, we have gotten an estimated window on the Fortnite proximity chat drop for September 19, 2025 from credible Fortnite Leakers @HYPEX and @ShiinaBR. If you want almost 100% confirmed leaks about Fortnite, you'll visit one of their X profiles.
Proximity chat should be available during a new Delulu mode for Battle Royale, where you'll use this feature to squad up with other players on the map. That means you can talk other players into joining you, or you can use your silver tongue to lead them into loyalty, then betraying them.
Does Fortnite Already Have Proximity Chat?
Fortnite does not have proximity chat in the official game modes at the moment like Battle Royale, Zero Build, etc. Creators, however, do have the option of turning on proximity chat for their Creator Islands. This won't affect your personal voice chat settings for UEFN, it just means you have the option of using (and hopefully not abusing) it.
The abusing part is most likely the biggest issue and the reason why this feature isn't part of the regular game modes. Fortnite has a huge player base, and while you might not be throwing insults at players, you can't say the same for others. If you hear someone being verbally abusive through voice chat, you can report and block them.
How to Enable Proximity Chat in Fortnite Creative Mode
For starters, proximity chat has to be enabled by the creator of the map already for you to even be able to use. You must also have your own Voice Chat settings toggled to Everybody if you want to hear what other players have to say. You can also toggle it back to off, or select Friends and Teammates only if you don't want to hear what randoms are saying.

What Is Fortnite Delulu Mode?
Delulu is a recently leaked Fortnite game mode which will utilize proximity chat as a feature to let players join teams but also betray them. It's currently unconfirmed on what the game mode will exactly be, but we have some rumored game details:
- Zero Build
- An 80 Player Lobby
- 1 winner
- You'll be able to join squads during the match
- Weekend only LTM
As we mentioned above, all of the information is yet unconfirmed by Epic Games, but considering it comes from popular and trustworthy leakers, we should actually expect this game mode on Friday 19, 2025.
Fortnite Proximity Chat FAQ
According to multiple reports and credible leaks, proximity chat is coming on September 19, 2025 as part of the Delulu mode.
Proximity chat is already available in Fortnite, but only on Creator/UEFN Islands, not on official Epic game modes.
From the reports, proximity chat seems to be limited to the Delulu mode, and not available on other official game modes.
You can disable proximity chat in Creator/UEFN modes. However, you might not be able to do so in the Delulu LTM as it seems to be a core feature of that mode.
Considering that the reports come from multiple credible Fortnite leakers like Hypex and ShiinaBR, who share correct rumors on the game all the time, then they can be considered extremely reliable. However, the reports still remain unconfirmed by Epic Games.
From what we've gathered, proximity chat will only available in the weekend Battle Royale LTM Delulu, where you can use this feature to form squads.
