What is new in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1?

The changes are massive.

Fortnite Chapter 3 is the beginning of a new era for the immensely popular Battle Royale game. It introduces several changes, overhauls, and upgrades. From a new map to improved movement mechanics, here's everything new in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1.

Map - The old map was flipped to reveal a brand new map with various points of interest (POIs). The western half of the map is covered in snow with the warm tropics to the east. Some of the most prominent POIs include Greasy Grove, Logjam Lumberyard, Sanctuary, and Daily Bugle.

Weapons - Additions to different weapon classes:

  • Ranger Assault Rifle
  • MK-Seven Assault Rifle
  • Striker Pump Shotgun
  • Auto Shotgun
  • Sidearm Pistol
  • Stinger SMG
  • Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper

In-Game Events:

  • Random weather events in between matches like tornadoes and lightning. Tornadoes will interact with the game's environment and players.
  • New wildlife species spread across the map. These are supposedly bigger than the previous map's Raptor dinosaurs.

Items and Pastimes:

  • Med-Mist can be used while moving to heal yourself and your teammates.
  • Grizzle Juice restores your health back to 100 overtime.
  • You can camp out on the island by throwing down the Tent item. It can be used to regenerate health and stash up to three items for use in future matches.
  • Victory Crown can be earned by getting high placement points in a match. You can show off the Crown in the next match and receive bonus XP while wearing it. Here's who gets the Victory Crown:
    • Solo: Top four players
    • Duos: Top two teams
    • Trios: Top team
    • Squads: Top team

Mechanics:

  • Use the new sliding movement for a momentary speed boost.
  • You can swing across an area using the Spider-Man’s Web-Shooters.
  • Knocked players can crawl faster.
  • Reviving and starting up a Reboot Van is faster.

Other changes:

  • New Battle Pass with characters including Spider-Man, Shanta, Ronin, Harlowe, and more.
  • The Former Loopers characters (NPCs) include Bunker Jonesy, Guaco, Lil' Whip, and others.
  • Season and Milestone Quests in addition to the already existing Daily Quests.
