Attacking enemies automatically accumulates your momentum. Whether it be a ranged attack, takedown, or even some specials, you'll get momentum doing almost everything. Stronger and heavier attacks grant more momentum, allowing your caped crusader to dish out more needed justice. Using a momentum ability depletes your momentum, so you'll need to build it up again if you wish to unleash any more special moves.

All ways to increase momentum in Gotham Knights

As mentioned, dealing damage increases your momentum, but there are several things you can do to improve momentum generation. First, the most obvious, attacking with quick light attacks generates more momentum over time. These attacks deal low damage of course, but the pay off is the big momentum skill at the end. Heavy attacks generate more, but are less safe and take longer to execute overall.

Gear also plays a big role in your overall momentum generation. Some craftable loot gives you increased momentum generation by percentages, meaning that bigger and meatier attacks benefit more from it. That isn't to say that light attacks won't generate more either. It's an overall net positive, so if you're seeking to spam those momentum skills, be sure to look for this stat. Also, Nightwing is the only character in Gotham Knights that can get a second bar of momentum, so consider playing him if you enjoy using specials.

In addition to those things, dodging attacks, perfect dodges, counters, and timed attacks all build momentum quickly, so try to use these as much as possible as you clean up the streets of Gotham.

How to unlock new momentum abilities

Momentum skills are unlocked through playing the story and completing certain challenges around Gotham City. Most of the momentum skills can obtained without doing side content, but there are a few that are locked behind these specific challenges. You can check to see what needs to be done for each challenge by opening the Momentum Abilities tab. Each character as total of eight momentum abilities.
