How to improve FPS in Gray Zone Warfare

Improving FPS and general performance in most games comes down to which settings give the most benefits without harming graphical fidelity. While lowering every single setting may result in the highest performance, there may be a middle ground that can offer the same smoothness without turning all plants 2D.

Use FSR or DLSS Upscaling

On Reddit, amidst the cries for a fix or complaints of performance issues, you can find players asking others to switch their Anti-Aliasing/Upscale Method to FSR; some players report doubling their FPS with this simple change. NVIDIA users can use the exclusive DLSS instead of FSR and could see similar boosts in performance. The Upscaling setting can be found in the Graphics tab and under the Advanced section.

For those unfamiliar, upscaling is the redrawing of an image at a higher pixel count without putting pressure on your GPU in the process. As an example, an upscaled 1080p image will look very similar to a 1440p image, or you can go for a 720p upscaled to 1080p or 1440p for example. So, changing your upscaling method will have a strong effect on both visual clarity and performance (moreso the bigger the difference between the native and upscaled resolution).

Players with good rigs can opt to use the Epic or higher graphic present while using the DLSS 3 Frame Generation setting. NVIDIA itself has said that users could see a 2.7X increase in frame rates at 4K texture resolution, while players reported a respectable decrease in stuttering and FPS drops.

Use lower graphic settings

We never like to hear these words being said, but there aren't many alternatives. We need to bite the bullet and accept that lowering our graphics is the best way to improve performance. This solution will have varying effects depending on your rig.

Below you'll find a balanced set of graphics options, which should offer a mostly steady 60FPS or so depending on your hardware:

Wait for performance improvements

Madfinger Games has recently announced a fix is incoming for multiple issues but performance isn't among the ones listed. While it isn't great that Gray Zone Warfare isn't running as we'd all like, fixing performance issues isn't a quick five-minute job, so all we can do is wait.
