Hades 2 is out now in Early Access and one of the many questions players may have is whether Zagreus, the protagonist from the first game and Melinoe's brother shows up in this sequel.
Please note that there are some spoilers for the later parts of Hades 2. If you want to enjoy the game spoiler-free, I'd recommend turning back now.
Is Zagreus present in Hades 2?
Yes, Zagreus is somewhat present in Hades 2, but not as you think. When starting out in the game he is seen in a painting at the Crossroads. It shows Melinoe as a baby alongside Hades, Persephone, and of course, Zagreus. Though, he looks quite different as we see him in the first game. Simply going in front of the painting will result in Melinoe saying a few words.
Towards the end of the game, when Melinoe faces Chronos, a cutscene will appear where you will get to briefly play as Hades himself in the House of Hades. We get to see what happened when Chronos took over and you'll eventually meet him in a room. You'll see a lot of characters frozen and one of them is none other than Zagreus.
It is the same character model from the first game so it's undoubtedly him. He looks to be in an attacking pose so it seems like he was trying to attack someone, probably Chronos, when he was frozen.
Chronos says that he has ''merely imprisoned them in a moment that shall never pass'' so we can be sure that Zagreus is not dead. We don't know whether or not Melinoe will get to meet Zagreus in Hades 2's lifecycle but for now, we are assured of his fate in the game.
