Half-Life 25th Anniversary Multiplayer Maps

Valve put out a major update for Half-Life to celebrate its 25th anniversary. What I got excited about the most were the new maps added to the multiplayer mode. Even though I constantly get killed, I enjoy the chaos.

As the name suggests, Contamination is set in a contaminated waste facility, so you'll encounter hazardous materials galore. Definitely don't jump into any of the green radioactive pools, as they'll kill you instantly—I'm totally not speaking from experience. You can find a gluon gun on this map, but it's in a radioactive room. Get out quickly before you take too much damage.

The Disposal map is located at Processing Area 3, a radioactive waste plant. Of course, this map also contains a huge section with pools of radioactive waste. It's perfect to play around and get your enemies to fall in while trying to dodge your bullets. Just don't fall in yourself.

Pool party

The Pool party map is set at an abandoned Xen outpost in space. This map has three healing pools in the middle, so why do we have to fight when we can just relax in the water? If you're set on fighting, get to the high ground on this map, which you'll find plenty of. Staying on the ground will make you an easy target, and you can also slip and fall off into space.

Rocket frenzy

Rocket Frenzy is a satellite launch site map. For Half-Life fans, this will look very reminiscent of the On the Rail chapter in single-player mode. Like in the chapter, you can launch this rocket satellite into space. But watch out when you're doing it, or your enemies might kill you while you're distracted.

Half-Life Further Data Multiplayer Maps

Aside from the new maps, we also got some old ones with the 25th-anniversary update. Years ago, three maps were released in stores on a CD called Half-Life: Further Data. Now, these maps are part of the Half-Life online roster.

Doublecross is a map inspired by Crossfire from the first game. While the general setup is different, with new buildings and areas, both maps contain a bunker you can use to your advantage. From the bunker, you can launch a nuclear attack on enemies outside. There is also good cover to shoot from so enemies don't take the bunker over.

Rust Mill

Rust Mill is another Half-Life Further Data map that has joined the roster. It has a large underwater area that you can use to avoid or ambush enemies. It also contains a bunker, which can only be opened with two people. You'll have to coordinate with a teammate to get to the tracking computer and see all the enemies on the map.

Xen DM

Xen DM is a Half-Life multiplayer map set on Xen. This map is mostly vertical, containing very low gravity and alien trampolines, which you can use to get the high ground. This map is super fun to play on, especially during a mid-air shootout.
