How the Golden Snitch works in Quidditch Champions

What does catching the Golden Snitch actually get you this time around?

The Golden Snitch is one of the most iconic pieces of lore in the world of Harry Potter, and it makes its grand return to the Quidditch pitch in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions. However, it functions a little differently this time around, so here's our handy guide for how the Golden Snitch works in Quidditch Champions.

If you're familiar with the original Harry Potter book series and its encompassing lore, the Golden Snitch is synonymous with Quidditch and this winged golden ball the size of a walnut traditionally acts as the sport's endgame challenge for Seekers. Those who manage to catch it would earn a staggering 150 points for their team and the match would automatically end. This was even the case in the highly beloved 2003 game Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup.

However, the Golden Snitch functions quite differently in Quidditch Champions, which may come as a surprise to some. As you first learn in the game's Tutorial mode, a Seeker is still tasked with catching the Golden Snitch before the Seeker on the opposing team does. As soon as the notification pops that the Snitch has appeared on the field, you can quickly switch to your team's Seeker to actively pursue it, if you'd rather not rely on an AI bot to do the job.

Once you've successfully spotted the Golden Snitch on the field, it will start to release a trail of golden rings that you can fly through. These will give you an extended speed boost that maintains as long as you keep flying through those rings, and fills up the "catch gauge" visible beneath the snitch's model. Once the gauge is full and turns blue, you can catch the Snitch as soon as you get close enough and press the appropriate button.

However, the rewards for catching the Snitch in Quidditch Champions have been significantly altered. Instead of the traditional 150 points, a catch will only grant your team 30 points (as seen above). Also, the match does not automatically end with the catching of the Snitch by either team.

Rather, once caught the Snitch phase will go on a temporary cooldown and will resume once that cooldown has ended. At that point, you can chase down the Snitch once again and do so as many times as you can before the match timer reaches zero.

While this perhaps takes away some of the dramatic impact of catching the Golden Snitch, it still makes accruing points in matches more feasible beyond just scoring with your Chasers. Quidditch Champions has definitely done its part to make all positions in the game feel approachable.
