Best Stratagems against Automatons in Helldivers 2

How to best deal with the Automaton threat.

The Automatons are some of Helldiver 2's worst enemies due to their focus on ranged combat, a direct contrast to the Terminids. It is this key difference that makes the Automatons so dangerous, and without the right Stratagems at your fingertips, you won't stand a chance against them.

Which Stratagems are best against Automatons in Helldivers 2?

The best Stratagems against the Automatons are those that counter their greatest advantage, Armor. Nearly all but the lowest rank Automatons are clad in some level of armor that makes them difficult to take down without the proper tools. Therefore, I highly recommend you bring in Stratagems that can be called in often and can deal with armored foes with ease.

  • Anti-Materiel Rifle - Combined with its high-fire and solid armor penetration, this is always a solid option against most enemies, but especially against Automatons
  • Autocannon - Automatons commonly deploy enemies with at least medium armor, making the Autocannon a solid go-to for most of them. Best of all, if you're working with a teammate, then this toy can rip through hordes of Automatons with ease.
  • Railgun - Easily the best weapon against Automatons, the Railgun can effectively deal with every type of Automaton threat, including Hulks and Tanks. It has great ammo efficiently and doesn't require help from outside sources to be effective.
  • Spear - Automaton towers are one of the most dangerous enemy types to deal with, but the Spear makes short work of them, even outside of their long range.

  • Orbital Railcannon Strike - This stratagem is the perfect heavy-armor deletion tool, as it has a very short deploy time, and will always target the largest threat on the field, which is often a Tank or Hulk.
  • Eagle Airstrike - A solid stratagem overall, the Eagle Airstrike is very effective against Automatons specifically because they do not move much once they're in range of shooting at you or your team, making it easy to land on a cluster. It is also great for taking out those pesky Automaton factories you see in the distance.
  • Shield Generator Pack - That stratagem effectively increases your maximum health, but most importantly, it stops you from being one-shot by stray Automaton rocket fire. If you're having issues staying alive against them, then pick for your loadout.
  • Mortar Sentry - The Mortar Sentry is one of the strongest stratagems in Helldivers 2 because of how utterly destructive it is (yes to your teammates too). However, it is especially effective against Automatons because, again, they don't move around much, making them easy pickings for high attitude, high explosive payloads from above.

With any combination of these Stratagems, your squad will make short work of any Automaton threat that dares threaten the Helldiver Initiative.
