How to Unlock Special Nuls in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Unlocking these special Nuls often involves completing specific quests or reaching certain milestones. Here's a guide to help you unlock each one:

Collector Hat Nul

This helpful little Nul makes collecting materials much easier, but first, you need to complete the Terra Nul quest series. During this questline, Pochacco will introduce you to the Collector Hat, calling it a "really cool hat." He'll explain that placing this hat on a Nul allows it to gather materials for you. Once he gifts you the Collector Hat, you'll need to find the Nul standing outside of Small Gift Big Smile and place the hat on them.

After that, you can choose any item you'd like the Nul to collect from around the island. The materials will appear in the Collection Box next to the Collector Hat Nul the following day, making it a fantastic way to stock up on supplies without all the legwork.

Curator Nuls

There are multiple Curator Nuls, each tied to a different part of the island’s Nature Preserve. To start donating critters, you’ll need to complete the Open the Nature Preserve quest, which begins when you meet Keroppi in Spooky Swamp. He’ll tell you about his discovery—the Nature Preserve—and ask for your help in officially opening it. Your first task is to locate the Bog Critter List, found at the bottom of a large tree near the Nature Preserve.

You won’t be able to donate critters right away, though. First, you need a Net, and for that, you’ll have to visit Badtz-Maru. He'll provide the crafting recipe and show you how to catch your first critter. After that, completing Restore the Nature Preserve will allow you to collect the remaining Critter Lists so you can start donating critters from across Friendship Island.

To unlock the Merry Meadows Critter Corral, you'll need to grow a beanstalk by planting a Giant Seed and watering it daily. The Critter Corral is located near the Meadows Creation Station fast-travel mailbox, on the fourth level of the Merry Meadow. Reaching this area requires traveling down from the Meadows Temple. Getting to the temple itself involves planting the third Giant Seed near the northeastern wall of the Merry Meadows Overlook. The first seed can be found in the Merry Meadows Fields, the second is rewarded from the Care Packages quest (unlocked at friendship level 12 with Wish Me Mell), and the third is inside the Electric Introductions puzzle room in a treasure chest.

To unlock the Cloud Island Critter Corral, you’ll need to complete the Catching a Cloudragon quest. This quest starts when you meet Kiki on Cloud Island, where he’ll tell you he’s having trouble catching a Cloudragon. You’ll then be sent to speak to all the Island Residents, and once you reach Keroppi, he’ll agree to help you. You’ll need to catch a Cloudragon using either your Net or Bubble Wand and gift it to Kiki. After doing so, the Cloud Island Critter Corral will officially open, and you can start donating critters to the Nul nearby.

Game Nuls

Game Nuls are ready and waiting for you as soon as you discover each area. Unlike other special Nuls, they aren’t locked behind any quests—you just need to know where to find them. If you’re unsure where to look, check the locations listed in the table at the top of this guide.

Ghost Tour Guide Nuls & the Witch Nul

The Ghost Tour Guide Nuls operate around the Ghost Tour Ride in Spooky Swamp, but before you can ride the trian, you’ll need to complete the Re-Haunt the Spooky Swamp quest. This quest begins after you talk to Kuromi, who asks for help revitalizing the Spooky Swamp attractions. She’ll lead you to the Haunted Mansion, where she’ll give you the first Green Power Crystal. Placing it on the podium next to the mansion will trigger the appearance of Chococat and TOPHAT, and you’ll be tasked with reaching the top of the mansion.

On the first floor, you’ll find the Witch Dress inside a chest. From there, you must complete the 10 Haunted Mansion Puzzle Rooms in order, unlocking the door to the 11th room, where the second power crystal is hidden. After placing this crystal on the podium, you’ll need to find three levers near the Ghost Tour Ride to clear the fog and turn on all the lights. Once that’s done, you can take a ride on the Ghost Tour, which unlocks the Treasure Trove. Inside, you’ll find the Witch Hat in a treasure chest, along with the third power crystal.

To reach the final power crystal podium, you’ll need to be wearing the full Witch outfit. The Witch Nul guarding the podium will only let you through if you’re properly dressed. After activating the final power crystal, TOPHAT will regain part of his memory, and you’ll receive the crafting plans for the Decorative Green Power Crystal. While the Witch Nul disappears after letting you through, a second one can be found in the Witch’s Hut with Kuromi later on.

Boat Nuls

Boat Nuls are available from the start—there’s no need to unlock them. The Rainbow Reef Nul boat travels along the interior coastline of Friendship Island, stopping at all the inward-facing piers. The Spooky Swamp Nul boat, on the other hand, follows the swamp’s winding rivers.

Photo Op Nuls

These Nuls first appear during the Picture Day quest. You’ll start by meeting My Melody outside of her shop, where she’ll ask you to take a photo with her in front of Small Gift Big Smile. After that, she’ll invite you to Seaside Resort to take another picture.

At the resort, you’ll meet the Photo Op Nul, who will take a picture of you and My Melody. Pochacco will then join, and you’ll take another photo together. Once that’s done, My Melody will send you on a hunt to find four additional Photo Ops across the island (see the table at the top of this guide for exact locations):

  • Potion Pictures at Spooky Swamp
  • Old Town Pose at Gemstone Mountain
  • Lazy Lava Looks at Mount Hothead
  • Shipwreck Selfies at Rainbow Reef

Once all of these locations have been visited, all Photo Op areas will be permanently unlocked.

Propeller Hat Nul

To unlock this Nul, you need to complete the Cinnamoroll is Missing quest, which becomes available at Friendship Level 14 with Cinnamoroll. The quest starts when you meet Hangyodon at the Comedy Club fast-travel mailbox. He’ll reveal that strange sounds have been coming from the mailbox, and upon investigation, you’ll discover that Cinnamoroll is trapped inside.

Cinnamoroll will ask you to find his Mailbox Key, which is located on the plane. Before heading off, he’ll give you a Propeller Hat for the Nul standing near the Resort Plaza fast-travel mailbox. Once you place the hat on the Nul, you’ll be able to ask them to transport you to the plane. Inside, you’ll find the Mailbox Key near the back. After returning it to Cinnamoroll, you’ll receive a Propeller Hat and gain unlimited access to the plane.

Sprinkler Hat Nul

To unlock the Sprinkler Hat Nul, you need to complete the Friends of the Flowers quest. This quest becomes available after finishing both the Terra Nul and Green Thumbs quests.

Wish Me Mell will ask for help tending flowers, and after speaking with My Melody and Tuxedosam, you’ll receive the crafting plans for the Sprinkler Hat. Once you craft it, you can place it on any Nul of your choice, and they’ll automatically water all the flowers in the region whenever you ask them to.

Beyond the hats mentioned here, you can also dress up all Nuls in Hello Kitty Adventure Island with any hat that you purchase from Tuxedosam or find around the islands in the game. There are no special functions to these other hats, but equipping a Nul with them just makes them all a little more unique.
