Game Modes - Local vs Online Play

When you boot up Hero Siege, you'll have two options to choose from: Play Local and Play Online. Both modes are identical gameplay-wise, the only obvious difference being you can play with other players and obtain a rank in the leaderboard in the latter. Thus, I suggest playing online by registering a new account.

Does Hero Siege have local co-op?

The game used to have co-op for local mode where you could play with a friend or control both characters yourself using different controllers. However, the local co-op feature is no more and you can only play with others via the online multiplayer mode by hosting or joining a server.

Character Classes in Hero Siege

There are a plethora of archetypes to select from in the game and each one is associated with a different set of skills and abilities. Select a character slot and assign the hero you want to play with. On the same screen, you can select the gameplay mode (see bottom left of the image above). Beginners should stick with Seasonal only; Odyssey disables multiplayer and Hardcore ramps up difficulty.

You can refer to our Hero Siege Class Tier List for a ranking, but below are the best characters you can use as a beginner in the game:

  • Pirate
  • Necromancer
  • Pyromancer
  • Marksman

As you play the game and level up your character class, you'll slowly understand which legend suits you best depending on their skills, mobility, damage, and ease of leveling. After character selection, you can also customize your hero's appearance before hitting the play button.

How to select the server in Hero Siege

On the next screen, you can select your server by scrolling between the available regions from the drop-down menu as shown in the picture above. If no unlocked server is available, choose Create Game from the bottom right or Join Game to enter a match hosted by a friend of yours.

How to unlock higher difficulties in Hero Siege

While creating a lobby, you'll only get the Normal Difficulty option as a new player and the associated monster and magic stats will be listed under there (see image above). To unlock the Nightmare Difficulty, you must defeat Mevius The Rift God in Act 7. Similarly, defeat the same boss in Nightmare mode to unlock the Hell Difficulty. The Inferno stage was recently added to challenge players even further.

How to use the Shop in Hero Siege

Clicking on the Shop button while creating a game will take you to the in-game shop from where you can purchase cosmetics for your character classes, companions, and lootboxes. Thankfully, the game doesn't have pay-to-win elements. Some meaningful purchases here are upgrades to your inventory & stash and new character class unlocks.

Inventory and Skill Menu

Hero Siege Inventory

You can open your character inventory by pressing C (default) on clicking on the sword icon on the bar in the bottom left corner of the HUD. There you can check and edit the gear your hero is using, i.e., weapons, gloves, charms, relics, etc. The bottom half displays items such as gems, potions, keys, and everything else in the main tab. You can buy more slots if needed by clicking on Extra.

Hero Siege Skill Menu

The Skill Menu (keybind for which is T) shows your character's attributes and allows you to allot points to the stat you want to increase. On the right half of this screen, you can equip the skills you want to use. As you level up, you'll receive more points to acquire more abilities and strengthen your character. You can always press Reset Attributes to reassign the stats for free. However, resetting skills costs 10 Gold Coins.

How to assign a skill in Hero Siege

After acquiring a skill on your character, press on the bar in the bottom left corner of the HUD that shows you attack keybinds. Click on the hotkey of your choice (let's say Q) and then select the skill you want to assign it to. Now press this button while playing to use the ability against the enemies.

Bonus Tips and Tricks for new players in Hero Siege

  • Focus on upgrading one of two good skills to higher levels for best performance.
  • Mining is crucial as the ores earn you a lot of money when you sell them. Some good farming locations are Fields of Battle, Dry Hills, The Devil's Beach, and Event Horizon.
  • Look for and complete quests to level up your hero fast and earn rewards.
  • Higher Difficulty (i.e., Nightmare and Hell) means better rewards and money.
  • Leveling up can be time-consuming but fun if you take on enemies of your level or a bit higher.
  • Trade with other players when in need of certain items but beware of thugs and avoid paying more than what's required.
  • Recruit a Mercenary for more manpower. For instance, Gar Nor in Inoya is obtainable for 100,000 Gold).
  • Drop items you don't need in your inventory to free up space for useful goods.
