Hogwarts Legacy: Is Ominis Gaunt related to Voldemort? Gaunt Family, Explained

Ominis Gaunt is a familiar face you will come across as your journey begins in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But many players are wondering if he is at all related to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Here's everything you need to know if Ominis Gaunt is related to Voldemort in Hogwarts Legacy.

In Hogwarts Legacy, each house has different members with whom you would interact as you progress in the game. One such face you would interact with on your first day is Ominis Gaunt. He belongs to the Slytherin House and if you are sorted in the same house, you would learn a lot more about him. He was born blind and shares the same bloodline as Salazar Slytherin, who was also the founder of Slytherin House. There is no doubt that Slytherins have a way of stealing the spotlight, and not always for the right reasons.

Ominis Gaunt was born to pure-blooded wizards and was raised to believe that muggles did not deserve to learn magic or live. In fact, you would learn in Hogwarts Legacy that he was forced to use the Cruciatus Curse on innocent Muggles against his will. He did not share the same thoughts as the Gaunt family and neither enjoyed killing Muggles. Potter fans must remember that Tom Riddle, otherwise known as Lord Voldemort, was born to Tom Riddle Sr and Merope Gaunt, a powerful witch. Although Voldemort was given his father's name but through his mother, Merope Gaunt, he belonged to the bloodline of Salazar Slytherin too. It is no coincidence that Salazar could transform into a snake and speak Parseltongue, which both Voldemort and Ominis have in common.

Ominis speaks in Parseltongue in The Shadow of the Study Quest. Now, this begs the question of whether Ominis Gaunt and Voldemort are related. According to Harry Potter lore, Tom Riddle was born in 1926, and his mother Merope Gaunt, in 1907 to Marvolo Gaunt. The Gaunt family were a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin and hence a Parseltongue too. Since Hogwarts Legacy takes place much before the events of Harry Potter, it's safe to assume that Ominis is a direct relative and an ancestor of Voldemort.
