How to get the spell for Crucio (Unforgivable Curse) in Hogwarts Legacy

In Hogwarts Legacy, players learn and use various types of spells on their enemies. While all the spells have their situational use, three Unforgivable Curses are immensely powerful. The first Unforgivable Curse you can learn in the game is Crucio, and here's how to acquire it.

How to unlock Crucio spell in Hogwarts Legacy

The Crucio spell is a part of the In the Shadow of the Study relationship/side quest involving Sebastian Sallow, a fellow student of the Slytherin House. After you get familiar with Sebastian during the initial hours of your gameplay, you'll have to complete a main quest called In the Shadow of the Undercroft. Following this, your bond with Sebastian will improve and you'll start doing quests with him, each starting with the term "In the Shadow of...".

The In the Shadow of the Study will automatically appear as you progress through these missions. Keep in mind that you'll have to be at least level 16 to accept this mission, hence don't forget to gain XP by performing various tasks. Once you complete the mission, Sebastian will teach you the Crucio spell that, when used upon an enemy, damages them over time. Keep partaking in Sebastian's quests if you want to learn the other two Unforgivable Curses, i.e., Imperio and Avada Kedavra.

Can you miss learning Crucio in Hogwarts Legacy?

As mentioned previously, the Crucio spell is acquired by completing a side quest, hence players who're focusing on merely progressing through the main story may miss it. Furthermore, near the end of the In the Shadow of the Study mission, you'll miss the opportunity to learn the Crucio curse if you select the wrong dialogue choice. Therefore, don't choose the first option shown in the image above. If you somehow failed to learn the special spell, you can unlock it later. After a few more quests with Sebastian, interact with him and ask him to teach you the spell.
