What happened to miHoYo?

HoYoverse isn't another company.

Many players are noticing quite a big change to Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3rd, and Tears of Themis. The name of the developer on the games has suddenly changed to HoYoverse, seemingly overnight. This is especially noticeable in the newest Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact trailers on YouTube.

HoYoverse is the same company as miHoYo, but they have rebranded themselves to help further establish their identity with global audiences. While this may seem like it came out of nowhere, the company did make an official announcement late Sunday night.

While this does mean that they are changing their website address, email addresses, and logos, that seems to be about it. The company hasn't announced that they are moving their main headquarters, which has been rumored on sites like Reddit for quite some time, as u/Yamusauce points out.

They will also continue to be very involved with the Chinese player base, as they make up the largest percentage of Genshin Impact players. The company did state that they plan to open up more offices in other countries like Korea, Japan, and the United States to help with product development.

I start my day by exploring Teyvat in Genshin Impact and end it after reorganizing my apartment in Final Fantasy XIV. I am a diehard fan of N64 era games and will forever feel betrayed that Megaman Legends didn't finish. Outside of gaming, I have spend my time collecting manga, collecting anime figures, and watching anime with my naked cat.
