Do you have to build a base in Icarus?

There's no place like home.

As a survival game, one of the most important things is shelter, which is true in Icarus. There are many different types of shelter in the game, but the most common would be bases. These will be player-built shelters to weather out the environment and wildlife. But you may be wondering if you have to build a base in Icarus.

The answer to that will depend on the length of your mission. Icarus has session-based games, and at the end of these sessions, your base will be destroyed. So for shorter missions, you are better off not building a base while you should build one on longer missions.

On shorter missions, it is better not to spend time building a base. Instead, seek out caves to use as bases and protect yourself from the world. Put your crafting station and other valuables inside the cave to keep them safe.

On longer missions, you will most likely need to build a base. As time goes, the weather becomes worse, and you will encounter more hostile creatures. A strong base could be the difference between life and death. With a longer time, you can craft a base while still exploring and gathering resources.
