How do Spreading Flames work in Last Epoch?

Everything must burn!

Last Epoch has many different types of DoT aliments that are not inherently made clear in-game, and one such DoT is Spreading Flames. Spreading Flames is confusing because of its imprecise description, but as someone who's playing the game for quite some time, I know exactly how it works for your insight.

How does Spreading Flames function in Last Epoch?

Spreading Flames is a DoT (Damage over Time) aliment that functions similarly to your standard Burn status, right down to the Fire damage profile. However, while Spreading Flames works a lot like Ignite does, there are some key important differences to be aware of.

Firstly, Spreading Flames does not stack in any capacity. Unlike Ignite, which can stack on a target indefinitely, Spreading Flames can only have one active application on a target. Instead, Spreading Flames has a chance to "spread" to nearby targets when the original host of the DoT dies. It has no target limit, so it can continue to exist from a single application indefinitely. While Ignite does far more damage through its ability to stack, Spreading Flames is much stronger in AoE situations where stacking a DoT is not the most viable.

How do you apply Spreading Flames in Last Epoch?

Spreading Flames has a few ways it can be applied though not all classes can do so inherently. The easiest way is to play a Mage and acquire the Spreading Inferno node for the Fireball spell. If you're playing the Spellblade Mastery, taking Inferno for the Firebrand spell or Engulfing Flames for the Flame Reave spell also gives you access to Spreading Flames.

For Sentinels, Rebuke can get access to Spreading Flames by taking the Wildfire Shell node. Smite can also get access to the DoT by taking Immolate in the skill's tree.

If you're neither a Mage nor a Sentinel, you can acquire Spreading Flames by using Cinder Song or Firestarter's Torch, both are which are Uniques you can loot as a drop.
