Last Epoch Squirrel Build Guide

I guess these Squirrels have rabies because they deal so much damage.

The Primalist is one of the most flexible characters in the game, allowing you to turn into a massive bear, command a flock of beasts, and even summon a powerful totem to aid you in battle. In this guide, I'll be focusing on giving you the best Beastmaster Squirrel Build in Last Epoch.

Best Beastmaster Squirrel Build in Last Epoch

The Beastmaster Squirrel Build in Last Epoch is a hilariously fun character path you can take. The build utilizes a unique helm that swaps out your wolves with squirrels and doubles your minion capacity. Here are the pros and cons of the build:

ProsCons
High-Damage Output during Endgame ContentIt relies on unique equipment, which is very difficult to obtain.
Bleed and Shred stacks on enemiesWeak early to mid-game if built with low-resistance armor
Single-Target Specialist (i.e. very effective against bosses)Buff-juggle class (i.e. you need to properly manage your buffs throughout the fight)

Best Primalist Squirrel Passive Skills

For the Primalist Passive Skill Tree, here are the skills I recommend:

  • Gift of the Wilderness (8/8): The added bonus health for your character and the minions is vital to surviving the early to mid-game due to the damage output of the enemies.
  • Primal Strength (1/6): Primal Strength adds much-needed Health Regeneration and Strength to your character, giving you more sustain since you have a melee class.
  • Hunter's Restoration (5/5): Adding over to Primal Strength, Hunter's Restoration further boosts your health by 10% and gives you a flat health restoration every three seconds.
  • Survival of the Pack (5/6): With your sustain in-tact, it's time to boost your damage output. Survival of the Pack gives a lot of nice buffs to you and your minions, like Melee Damage and Melee Damage Leeched as Health.
  • Hunter's Emanation (5/5): Hunter's Emanation further adds more damage to your minions, basically letting them do all the dirty work while you swing your axe away.

The early to mid-game depends solely on these passive skills. Unlike the Rogue early-game build, wherein you can easily move in and out of the battlefield, the Primalist does not have that luxury. Instead, the Primalist will have to tank more enemy attacks, so sustain and defense is the key to surviving the early game.

Best Beastmaster Squirrel Passive Skills

For the Beastmaster Passive Skill Tree, we'll invest all of our points in boosting your minion's damage output and your sustain as much as possible. Here are the Beastmaster Passive Skills I recommend:

  • Ursine Strength (8/8)
  • Savagery (3/8)
  • Ambush (2/8)
  • Lamprey Teeth (6/6)
  • Rending Maw (5/5)
  • Boar Heart (4/5)
  • Porcine Constitution (5/5)
  • Hunters of the Deep (4/4)
  • Boar Heart (5/5)
  • Axe and Claw (5/5)
  • Life in the Wilderness (8/8)
  • Viper Fangs (5/10)
  • Cry of the Lynx (8/8)
  • Serrated Claws (5/6)
  • Critical Bite (5/5)
  • Primal Aspects (5/10)
  • Ancient Might (10/10)

Instead of discussing each skill one by one, I'll instead focus on what the entire passive tree boosts in your character. There are two aspects you need to level up and support as much as possible: the Aspect of the Boar and the Aspect of the Shark.

Both Aspects provide your character sustain, defense, and damage. The Aspect of the Boar grants damage reduction, which is very helpful in the mid to endgame. While the Aspect of the Shark provides more damage and lifesteal to you and your minions.

Moreover, passive skills like Boar Heart, Life in the Wilderness, and Primal Aspects further boost the effectiveness of the Aspect of the Boar. For the Aspect of the Shark, I put in passive skills that provide more utility and damage to your companions, like Axe and Claw, Viper Fangs, Cry of the Lynx, Serrated Claws, Critical Bite, and Ancient Might.

Best Skill Specializations for Beastmaster Squirrel Build

  • Summon Wolves - Summon Wolves is your bread-and-butter summon throughout the game up until the point where you obtain the Herald of the Scurry. I built the skill tree so your wolves can provide as much damage as possible.
  • Swipe - Swipe is a skill that your character will be using primarily throughout any point in the game. The skill tree in the image above is primarily composed of sustain, damage, and armor shred, allowing your companions to do more damage while you sit and swing your axe away.
  • Fury Leap - Fury Leap is your one and only mobility skill. It's very important to get the skill called "Heorot's Protection," as it ensures invulnerability during the skill animation. I also scaled Fury Leap to heal you whenever you land, so you can use it as a quick escape whenever you're taking too much damage.
  • Warcry - Warcry is a very useful crowd control and buff skill that stuns enemies surrounding your character. I built Warcry to also provide some quick healing in case players find themselves in a pickle without Fury Leap.
  • Summon Frenzy Totem - Summon Frenzy Totem is mainly for your minions. However, if you want to get in on the action, you can swing your axes at the enemies at a much faster rate, and your swings will deal more damage.

Best Blessings for the Beastmaster Scurry Build in Last Epoch

With your gear prepped and ready to go, it's time to get those Blessings. Here are my recommended Blessings for the Beastmaster Scurry Build in the Last Epoch:

  • Any Blessings that grant Resistance to any elements: It is important to fully cap the 75% resistance on all elements. Resistances are very important, especially in the endgame. Blessings are the only way to cover the remaining resistances other than your gear.
  • Grand Embers of Immortality: This blessing gives you a +% Endurance, which means it will reduce the damage dealt to your health below the threshold.
  • Grand Survival of Might: The Grand Survival of Might is an essential blessing in the monoliths to avoid critical strikes from enemies, which can sometimes one-shot your character.

Best Idols for the Beastmaster Scurry Build in Last Epoch

Now, it's time for Idols, which also grants a lot of bonus buffs to your minions. Here are my recommended idols for the Beastmaster Scurry Build:

  • Large Nomad Idol: This idol grants you increased health and more melee damage for both you and your minions.
  • Stout Lagonian Idol: To further improve your chances of surviving deadly battles, get this Idol to increase your health.
  • Grand Heorot Idol: Naturally, you want more DPS for your squirrels, so for the rest of the Idol slots, equip the Grand Heorot Idol to further boost their attack speeds.

How to play the Beastmaster Scurry Build in Last Epoch

Although it may sound simple, the Beastmaster Scurry Build has a lot of micro-managing mechanics to keep in check while battling against hordes of enemies and endgame bosses. As the primary summoner of the scurries, you need to stay alive for them to eliminate bosses, and you can accomplish this with Fury Leap and Warcry.

As with the skill tree built above for Fury Leap and Warcry, these are the only skills that provide you a good amount of health sustain. You can also opt to swing your axe once your build is finished, but endgame bosses hit hard, so you'll have to stay on your toes to survive.

Summon Frenzy Totem, on the other hand, provides a massive damage buff to your minions. You have to practice its placement throughout the battlefield, especially when you're dealing with hordes of enemies. The A.I. scurries are difficult to control and may stray away from your intended position, so totem placement is vital to improve efficiency in your runs.

Another thing to keep in mind is you need to have the best position to avoid big A.O.E. attacks from bosses that can, most of the time, one-shot you in the monoliths. Again, make use of Fury Leap and manage its cooldown so you can dodge those attacks. Luckily, I built the Fury Leap to have a % chance reset whenever you take down an enemy, but don't rely too much on luck, as it also takes skill to play this game.
