As soon as you build your village's basic structures, you'll want to expand. For that, you'll need more people, as the initial number will not suffice. Here's how to get more villagers and families in Manor Lords.

Your villagers form families that live in Burgage Plots (houses). The main difference between villagers is that men can take arms (Militia). To increase the population in Manor Lords, you must build houses, as newcomers need a place to stay. But you may notice that although you have enough empty Burgage Plots, there are no new families. In that case, check your approval rating (or, in gaming terms, happiness).

The happiness of your villagers is important because you want to settlement to have a good reputation. When outsiders hear about a village with great living conditions, they'll want to live there. You can find more detailed strategies for a high approval rating in our separate guide, but in short, always have enough food, keep them warm, build a church, and don't issue strict policies (or implement taxes). To ensure the population is rising as fast as you would like, maintain a high approval rating, having the numbers below in mind.

  • Low population growth—50% to 65%
  • Medium population growth—65% to 80%
  • High population growth—80% to 100%

Upgrade Burgage Plots to increase population

Plan your village well, as Burgage Plots need space for the backyard and a market nearby. Basically, your whole settlement revolves around houses, as you want to make your villagers happy. After some time, you'll face the challenge of building additional houses and maintaining high-quality living conditions.

The solution is to upgrade houses to increase their capacity, so more families can live in a great location. You can expand your houses so that one more family can live there, for a total of four families in one Burgage Plot. Here's how extra living space works when you upgrade the Burgage Plot.

  • Burgage Plot level 1 has one family.
  • Burgage Plot level 2 has two families.
  • Burgage Plot Level 3 has three families.
