Approval rating measures your popularity among villagers and influences the population growth and morale of your militia. It ranges from 0% to 100%, and ideally, you want it above 80% at all times. High approval will attract new villagers, and if it plummets below 50%, your citizens will start to leave your town slowly. There are several ways you can make sure your citizens are happy.

Always have enough food and fuel

Villagers can ask for many things, but they must first have enough food and fuel. The best way to have enough food is to build enough hunting camps and Foraging huts. Later, you should build chicken coops and vegetable gardens in the backyards of villager houses.

To keep villagers warm, prepare enough firewood and later build a Charcoal kiln to create charcoal. You'll need it a lot if you want to expand your town and have all citizens prepared for the winter season. When they're well-fed and warm, they'll ask for better food variety in a marketplace. You'll be perfectly fine if you have berries, meat, and eggs, but you can also invest in crop fields so you can make bread. That takes a bit of work, so if you need to have market food variety fast, import other types of food via the Trading post.

Make or import clothes

When you start upgrading your town level, your villagers will want better clothes. You can make clothes by yourself if you own sheep that give you wool, berries to dye cloth in a weaver workshop, skin for a tannery, and cobbler's and tailor workshop level 2 artisans in Burgage Plot. Or you can simply import clothes from the Trading Post, as I did.

Construct buildings that improve villager quality of life

Build a Church near homes, as that's the most important building for improving the approval rating in Manor Lords. Your villagers will respect the presence of God near their homes, which will improve their overall happiness. To double down on religion, employ one family to work there, and make sure to upgrade to Stone church as soon as you can.

You'll also want to construct a Tavern where villagers can drink beer and talk about how much they respect you. You must first improve your town to level 2 and make sure you either make beer by yourself with resources you grew or import necessary ingredients for your brewery (artisan in Burgage Plot). I suggest you either import ingredients or import beer, as everything surrounding crops is time-consuming.
