Vlad has one of the lowest starting health pools in Megabonk, but it keeps growing every time you level up, turning Vlad into an absolute tank by the late game. So, if you are having trouble surviving, Vlad might be the character who helps you break your run record. The only condition is that you use the Vlad builds suggested below.
Best Vlad Builds in Megabonk
Vlad is far from a one-trick pony, which is why we’ve listed three different Vlad builds in this guide. Build 1, reliant on Blood Magic and Lifesteal, is the optimal build for Vlad. But, if you can’t set that up right due to limited weapons, tomes, and item options, check out Build 2 and Build 3.
Build 1 - DPS Tank Hybrid
A hybrid DPS x Tank build is currently the best build for Vlad in Megabonk. The passives of Vlad and his weapon, Blood Magic, will turn him into a tank, while the secondary weapons take care of your damage output.
Weapons | Tomes | Items |
---|---|---|
Blood Magic Katana Flamewalker Dice/Revolver/Slutty Rocket | XP Tome Bloody Tome Quantity Tome Cooldown Tome | Gym Sauce Moldy Cheese Feathers Mirror Overpowered Lamp Scarf Slurp Gloves Demonic Blade Backpack Unstable Transfusion Beefy Ring Gas Mask (if you get Moldy Cheese) Chonkplate Bloody Cleaver |
Why It Works: If you don’t get XP Tome early, you might have a hard time setting up this build. But if you do, you can quickly scale Blood Magic to set up survivability and get secondary weapons that dish out the damage.
Bloody Tome will further amplify Vlad’s Lifesteal passive, helping you reach near invincibility before you clear Stage 1. The other two tomes are to improve your DPS. Cooldown Tome will increase your attack speed, and Quantity Tome will increase the projectiles of all your weapons. More hits mean more damage and more Lifesteal as well.
Items are just as crucial as the weapons and tomes in this build. If you don’t see items like Bloody Cleaver, Chonkplate, and Overpowered Lamp early on Stage 2, you might not be able to go all the way to the final boss. Since items are completely random, you’ll need a little bit of luck. Also, take damage boosting items and stats from chests, vendors, and charge shrines whenever you can.
Build 2 - Kiting Vampire
Vlad’s high jumps and movement speed are another one of his many strengths. So, building him as a hit-and-run character also works very well.
Weapons | Tomes | Items |
---|---|---|
Blood Magic Aegis Dexecutioner Flamewalker/Slutty Rocket | Cooldown Tome Quantity Tome Damage Tome Luck Tome | Feathers Moldy Cheese Backpack Oats Joe’s Dagger Cursed Grabbies Beeft Ring Backpack Echo Shard Evasion Ring Slutty Cannon Clover Beacon Sucky Magnet Scarf |
Why It Works: Vlad’s high jumps and zero fall damage can be used to create a hit-and-run style build using a mix of AoE and melee weapons. The passives will increase Vlad’s health pool, although slightly slower than Build 1, as you focus on positioning to clear hordes of enemies with single-hits.
The devastating trio of Damage, Cooldown, and Quantity Tome will scale all the weapons, massively improving Blood Magic, Dexecutioner, and Flamewalker. Slutty Rocket also synergizes just as well with all three tomes. The Luck Tome is in there to help you get items like Joe’s Dagger (slightly nerfed now, but still good), Cursed Grabbies, and Beefy Ring.
Increase Dexecutioner’s size and Flamewalker’s duration every chance you get, and the items will take care of the rest. Constant movement is key to the success of this build, so boosting movement speed and jump height/jump count is also important.

Build 3 - The “Holy Trinity” Build
If you like to run the Holy Trinity of Tomes and want to do it with Vlad, this is the build to go for. This build also unleashes the unexpected Blood Magic x Size Tome synergy.
Weapons | Tomes | Items |
---|---|---|
Blood Magic Aura Dexecutioner Katana | Size Tome Cursed Tome XP Tome Luck Tome | Clover Anvil Demonic Blood Oats Unstable Transfusion Mirror Beefy Ring Beer Overpowered Lamp Gas Mask Moldy Cheese Boss Buster Big Bonk |
Why It Works: It is named the Holy Trinity, but the Size Tome is the heart and soul of this build. XP, Luck, and Cursed Tome will speed up farming and scaling, but Size Tome will increase the size and AoE of all four weapons. Yes, Katana and Blood Magic projectiles will get bigger with Size Tome, and it looks incredible.
Once the Size Tome is past level 10, the screen will just be covered in giant Aura, Katana, Dexecutioner, and Blood Magic projectiles. Very few, if any, enemies will break through as all weapons go from short-range AoE to long-range AoE. You can see this build in action in DerkyDerk’s video about Vlad.
Legendary items will help the build get even stronger. Anvil is crucial for this build as it speeds up your weapon scaling. Other items like Joe’s Dagger, Overpowered Lamp, and Bloody Cleaver will also help.
Vlad Starter Weapon and Passive
Vlad’s signature weapon is Blood Magic, a unique weapon that deals damage and increases your HP. You must unlock the Bloody Tome first by killing 12,500 enemies. After that, you have to level up the Bloody Tome to Level 12 during a run to unlock Blood Magic.
Blood Magic scales with Size, Quantity, Damage, and Cooldown Tomes.
Strengths | Weaknesses | Passives |
---|---|---|
Survivability: Lifesteal and Max HP passive make Vlad nearly invincible in the late-game. High mobility: Extra jumps and movement speed help keep distance from enemies. | Vulnerable to burst damage: Hits that deplete your HP faster than Lifesteal will be fatal. | Gain +1% Lifesteal per level. 5% chance on kill to permanently increase Max HP by 1. |
Megabonk Vlad FAQs
To unlock Vlad, you need to unlock Blood Magic by leveling up the Bloody Tome to Level 12 during a run and completing Desert Tier 2. After completing both these quests, you can purchase Vlad from the Unlocks section using Silver.
Vlad excels in Lifesteal-focused builds that use multi-hit and ranged weapons. Blood Magic is his signature weapon, so that’ll always be the best choice. After that, you can use Dexecutioner, Katana, Flamewalker, Aura, and even Revolver to make the most of his Lifesteal while keeping up your DPS.
There is no hard and fast strategy for Vlad in Megabonk. A Lifesteal-focused build suits him the best because of his and Blood Magic’s passive. But you can also use the hit-and-run strategy due to his excellent mobility. A pure DPS strategy also works well if you run the Size Tome with the Holy Trinity.
