Diamonds are a rare resource in Minecraft and are very useful to players because it allows them to craft high-tier items like tools and armor. I remember the first time I accidentally encountered a diamond ore while randomly digging through a mineshaft. My happiness didn't last long, however, because I soon discovered that I lucked out and couldn't find any after that one time. If you're like me and can't find this precious resource, this guide will help you!
Where to find & look for Diamonds in Minecraft 1.20
The level on which Diamond Ore most commonly spawns in Minecraft 1.20 is at Y -59, right above the Bedrock level. When looking for Diamond Ore veins, the best method is to branch mine by expanding in multiple directions once you reach a certain depth. It's a method that came naturally to me, but it's worth mentioning as it is the most optimal one for finding any type of ore in general.

Finding Diamonds in Minecraft 1.20 by Caving
Exploring cave systems and abandoned mineshafts while looking for Diamond Ores in Minecraft 1.20 is called Caving. It is a good alternative to mining; however, remember that an in-game mechanic reduces the air exposure of diamonds, and this rule includes cave systems. In other words, you will have less chance of finding an exposed Diamond Ore vein in caves than you would if digging a mine shaft.
This rule doesn't include underwater caves, as the blocks of water are not counted the same as blocks of air in Minecraft. Exploring underwater caves to look specifically for diamonds is more valid than regular, dry cave systems. The presence of water will also nullify hostile mob spawns, so at least you won't have to worry about zombies and skeletons while searching for the precious ore.
