How to find Trial Chambers in Minecraft

Trial Chambers are found deep underground, making them harder to spot than most Overworld structures. There are two main ways to discover them. The first way is searching underground where they are likely to spawn in areas similar to where you'd find Ancient Cities. The second involves trading for a Trial Explorer's Map.

Searching underground

Like other structures, you can find Trial Chambers by exploring the world. Typically, Trial Chambers will spawn between Y=-40 and Y=0.

The starting room is commonly at a lower Y-level than most of the Chamber's other rooms. Once you see the Tuff blocks making up the Trial Chamber, you'll know you've found it. I find it easiest to dig straight into the wall of the Chamber to access it. Be careful as you'll never know what you're walking into.

Using a Trial Explorer Map

The easiest way to find Trial Chambers is by trading for a Trial Explorer Map. These maps can only be traded by Cartographer Villagers at journeyman-level or higher. They cost 12 emeralds and 1 compass.

Once you've traded for the Trial Explorer Map, place it in your inventory and select it to look at it. The location of the Trial Chamber is depicted on the map using a unique, square symbol. These maps will not always show the Trial Chamber closest to you, so you may need to prepare for a long journey. I was lucky to get a map showing the Trial Chamber in my area.

Follow the map and dig down once you've reached the Trial Chamber's location. Once you've dug far enough, typically around Y-Level -20, you'll see the Tuff Brick walls of the Trial Chamber.

How to start a Trial in Minecraft

Trial Chambers contain Trial Spawners, each serving as its own Trial. To begin a Trial, approach one of these Trial Spawners. They will emit small flames and light to show that they have been activated, after which they will spawn monsters. The monsters they spawn depend on the type of Trial Spawner it is.

The Trial will be considered complete after all the monsters released by the Trial Spawner are defeated. Upon completion, a reward will appear on top of the Trial Spawner. Half of the time this reward will be a Trial Key. It can also be items like emeralds, golden carrots, or even Ender Pearls.

Multiple trials can be activated at once, with some rooms having Trials grouped to form larger waves of enemies. In these cases, each Trial will still produce its own reward.

If you do get a Trial Key, you'll want to look out for a vault in the chamber itself. These are blocks with a face on. Interact with the vault when holding the Trial Key and it'll spit out some incredibly rare and valuable rewards.
