How to have children in Bannerlord

Time to produce an heir to the throne!

It wouldn't be one of the best medieval games if there weren't realistic features implemented, such as an unexpected meeting with death, or your characters passing with old age.

If you want to avoid losing the whole kingdom you've worked hard to build, then you'll probably want to ensure you have an heir ready to take the reigns. Here's how you can have some children.

Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord How to have a child guide

There are several factors that go into having a child in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, the first and foremost being that you have a spouse. You cannot have a child out of wedlock, so you're first going to want to make sure you have courted and married someone before you get to the heir-making.

Once you have someone, the best way to start having kids is to head to any fief and choose the 'Wait here for some time' option. Whenever a married couple spends time 'waiting' together at a fief, there is a chance for pregnancy. However, there are also several variables that go into whether or not that chance will be successful.

The female's age plays a big part in your chances. The older she is, the less chance she will get pregnant. She will also have lower chances depending on how many births she's already been through. To better your chances of having a child, there are a few things you can do:

  • The female is 18-20 years of age (giving you a 13-15% greater chance)
  • Have a level 25 perk Virile of the Charm skill (giving you 30% greater chance)
  • Save your game before waiting and wait about 10 days (reload if unsuccessful and try again)

If you have successfully gotten pregnant, this will not affect any of the character's skills or abilities. Once the pregnancy term is up, the child will automatically be added to your clan and will begin aging up. You can repeat the same process to produce more children. Of course, you'll want a mighty line to continue your lead.
