Nintendo Switch 2 news is coming soon, but not in the June Nintendo Direct

An announcement regarding the successor to the Nintendo Switch is coming within the current fiscal year, but it won't be happening at the Nintendo Direct next month, President of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa has announced.

The news came via a tweet from the official Nintendo Japan X (formerly known as Twitter) account. In it, Furukawa states that "an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch" will be made "within this fiscal year." That means we should have some news about the Nintendo Switch 2 before March 31, 2025.

Any hopes of us getting our first glimpse of Nintendo's next-gen hardware next month were squashed in the same post. "We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.

Reports from Bloomberg earlier this year stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 had been delayed into March 2025, having initially been scheduled to release before the end of 2024. Rumors as early as last week had also suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons would use magnetic technology to attach to the screen and main piece of hardware, rather than using the 'rails' system of the current hardware. Old Joy-Con and Pro Controllers would also work with the new device, and both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games would work on the Switch 2.

Looks like we won't have to wait too much longer to see whether all of these rumors are true or not. What are you hoping for with the Nintendo Switch 2? Let us know in the comments below.
