How to change time of day in Octopath Traveler 2

It's different.

Path Actions are big part of Octopath Traveler 2’s gameplay, and each character has double the Path Actions in this second installment of the franchise. The Path Actions available to each character changes with the time of day. If you don’t want to let the game sit for minutes waiting for the sun to come up and down, here’s how to change time of day in Octopath Traveler 2.

How to change the time from day to night in Octopath Traveler 2

If you missed the tutorial, know that you can instantly change the time of day in Octopath Traveler 2 by pressing R2, ZR, or F9—depending on the platform you’re playing it on. If you customized your PC keys, it may be different on your keyboard.

Aside from Path Actions, know that time of day also affects the NPCs you can interact with. So buying or stealing some items, as well as quest objectives can only be done in a particular time. We recommend changing the time of day even as you run between towns, so you don't miss any side quests.

All Path Actions in Octopath Traveler 2

Unlike the first game, all characters in Octopath Traveler 2 have two Path Actions: one they can use in the day and another at night. Below are all of them as reference. Some characters, like Agnea, are useful to have early on.

CharacterPath Actions
AgneaDay: Allure NPCs to go with you. It can be used to complete quests, but the NPC also has abilities that can be taken as battle support. Failing the attempt will damage your reputation.
Night: Obtain items from NPCs. The items you can take are dependent on Agnea's level.
HikariDay: Challenge NPCs to duels. Victory leads to new skills to use in battle. You must be at a high enough level to battle certain NPCs.
Night: Bribe NPCs for information. Needs G.
PartitioDay: Buy items from NPCs.
Night: Hire people to support you in battle. Needs G.
CasttiDay: Inquire NPCs for information. Castti needs to be at a certain level to succeed.
Night: Soothe an NPC to sleep. You must have a specific item that can knock them down (dependent on who you're soothing).
OsvaldDay: Scrutinize people for information. Failing the attempt will damage your reputation.
Night: Steal items from NPCs by defeating them battle. Failing the attempt will damage your reputation.
TemenosDay: Take an NPC with you. It can be used to complete quests, but the NPC also has abilities that can be taken as battle support. The NPCs you can guide are dependent on Temenos' level.
Night: Rough up NPCs for information. You only need to break their shield in battle to succeed.
OchetteDay: Challenge NPCs to a battle. Losing will damage your reputation.
Night: Take an NPC with you on a journey by offering them a specific item. The Path Action can be used to complete quests.
ThroneDay: Steal items from NPCs. Failing the attempt will damage your reputation.
Night: Knock NPCs unconscious. Throne needs to be at high enough level to attack certain NPCs.
