From the Far Reaches of Hell is a familiar book title to old fans, but in Octopath Traveler 2, it’s a side story you can find in Montwise. After accomplishing Procuring Familiar Tomes, Al (the traveler you first helped) will appear in the library and read the book. Unfortunately, it’s written in an unknown language, and he needs your help to decipher it.
Octopath Traveler 2 - Where to find an unknown language translator
You don’t actually find a language translator, but glean information as to how to decipher unknown languages. You’re looking for a scholar named Georges Lazuli, who is currently stuck on an expedition to the Nameless Isle for unknown reasons. The rate of success might be low for Scrutinize at your current level, so bringing Hikari along is our recommended point of action.
How to get to the Nameless Isle
Nameless Isle is very much a travelable location in Octopath Traveler 2. However, you need a boat to reach it, so complete the Scent of Commerce quest in Tropu’hopu if you haven’t yet. The fastest way to the Nameless Isle is by exiting the port in Toto'haha then traveling north.
Never mind the Danger Level indicated on the map, as we completed this quest with a party of level 32s to 34s—little struggle guaranteed. Move through the Nameless Isle toward the end of the dungeon where you’ll be forced into a boss battle with a Gigantes. After defeating the beast, you can speak to Georges and glean the information you need.

How to beat Gigantes in Octopath Traveler 2
Gigantes is a monster that always deals AoE attacks and raises its shields every turn it gets. We know it looks intimidating but it’s not really a threat as long as you break its shields quickly. Our recommended setup is very simple:
- Two to three Warriors
- A Scholar, if you can’t have three Warriors
- A Cleric
Gigantes is weak to swords, so at least two people with Aggressive Slash on your team are guaranteed to break its shields every one or two turns. It is also weak to fire, ice, and lighting, which are the three elements procured by a Scholar’s Elemental Barrage. This is a skill that will deal three to five hits always.
Be sure to whittle down its HP gradually with every shield break. Hikari’s Latent Powers (at full boost) is super good for this. Ochette, Throne (with Surprise Attack), and Osvald are all good options, really. Gigantes’ defenses are not that high.
