Procuring Peculiar Tomes is an Octopath Traveler 2 side story that you can obtain early into the game. In Montwise, there’s an Unusual Tome Specialist searching for three rare books: Dispatches from Beastling Island, The Curious Legend of the Great Wall, and From the Far Reaches of Hell. This guide will show you where to find these three books.

Where to find all three unusual tomes in Octopath Traveler 2

Two of these tombs can be obtained early in the game. However, one of them can only be procured from an area that we recommend you travel through above level 32, so it is recommended that you at least be on this level before you bother with this quest. We’ll detail the locations of all three unusual tomes below.

Dispatches from Beastling Island location

Dispatches from Beastling Island can be bought, stolen, or entreated from this merchant in Beastling Village. This is the town where you first met Ochette.

From the Far Reaches of Hell location

From the Far Reaches of Hell can be found in Crackridge (Wildlands). It’s in a chest in the only guarded house in the area, located in the southeast part below a ladder. Use any Path Action that can knock a person out to retrieve the tome.

The Curious Legend of the Great Wall location

The holder of The Curious Legend of the Great Wall is an archeologist located in Southern Stormhail Snows. He’s standing near the save point beside the mountain pass entrance.

If you’re fast traveling, the nearest town to the area is Stormhail but you can also reach it from Montwise. Exit Montwise and travel North. Beat up the soldier guarding the entrance for access to the Northern Montwise Pass, which will lead you to the Southern Stormhail Snows upon exiting.

Take all three books back to the Unusual Tome Specialist to receive your reward. Finishing this quest will also unlock another called From the Far Reaches of Hell. Al the traveler will give it to you. He’s located in the southeast part of the library.
