Octopath Traveler 2 – Sword Hunter in the Decaying Temple Walkthrough

Come alone.

Sword Hunter in the Decaying Temple is an Octopath Traveler 2 side story you can pick up very early into the game. It’s from a young warrior in Sai, who’s looking for the fiend that stole his father’s sword. He thinks he may be hanging out in a place called the Decaying Temple. But where is that? And how prepared should you be to fistfight for this sword?

Where to find the Decaying Temple in Octopath Traveler 2

The Decaying Temple is located north of Eastern Sai Sands. You’ll see a huge door with a “you must come alone to enter” warning. And it’s true—to take on this quest, you must come with one party member you trust can solo a battle. Our recommended level is at the very least 38. Bring a Thief Hikari if you can, but a Warrior Throne is okay too.

If the option to remove the lead member of your party is still not available, finish first the main story of the Octopath Traveler 2 protagonist you’ve picked. You can visit the tavern and remove them from the party after.

At the very end of the Decaying Temple is the thief you’re looking for. His name is Karma. Defeat him and you'll win back the man’s sword.

Karma isn’t a big threat as long you’ve brought a Thief Hikari, as mentioned. He’s the type of enemy that gets stronger the longer it takes you to break his shields.

Thief Hikari has access to three integral skills that can help resolve this issue: Vengeful Blade, Aggressive Slash, and HP Thief. Depending on Karma’s stance, he can be weak against swords or not, but he’ll always be weak against daggers. You’ll need Vengeful Blade for his second-to-the-last phase where he isn’t vulnerable to anything.

Then, just keep his shield broken and chip at his HP as much as you can. Throw a Refreshing Jam (which restores both HP and SP) if you think you need it. If you feel like you can’t defeat him yet, it’s also okay to come back when you’re a little stronger. Overleveling is a thing that can easily get you through this man.
