To get the Mycology Badge in PEAK, all you need to do is consume four non-poisonous mushrooms in a single run. It's not that difficult to achieve, so all you need to do is keep your eyes out for the different mushroom variants across the different biomes. Your snacking experiments will also get you a basic mushroom hat.

How to Identify Non-Poisonous Mushrooms in PEAK

Yes, you can cook and eat them, but some of these wild fungi might prove to be fatal because they're poisonous in nature. Non-poisonous ones exist too, but you need to pay attention to the ones you're using. You can't cheat your way to increase the number of non-poisonous mushrooms in your inventory in PEAK, nor can you reduce their effects, sadly. You have to put in the careful work.

While exploring the different locales in PEAK, especially in the Shore region, you will come across four distinct types of mushrooms, namely:

  • Chubby Shroom
  • Cluster Shroom
  • Button Shroom
  • Bugle Shroom

When trying to differentiate between the poisonous and non-poisonous variants, you can take two different routes:

  • You can either pick these mushrooms up and eat them directly. If you don't see any toxicity meter, then you're good to go.
  • Alternatively, you can look for some specific markers that can help you tell the poisonous ones from the normal ones.
Mushroom TypePoisonous MarkersNon-poisonous Markers
BugleLook for lines on the stem and below the hood. The entire mushroom is clean and uniform, with no blemishes or marks whatsoever.
ButtonShaped like a button, the caps on these mushrooms have polka dots on them. The caps on the non-poisonous button mushroom have a huge X mark, which stretches across the entire cap.
Chubby-These mushrooms are always safe to eat. They're round and large at the base, and have no poisonous variants.
ClusterOccurring in clusters, the stems on these have a short skirt. No skirt is present on any mushroom in the entire cluster. Stalks are clean and uniform.

What Happens if You Eat Poisonous Mushrooms in PEAK?

In case you end up consuming poisonous mushrooms in PEAK, then you'll receive multiple toxicity stacks. When these stacks are active, you will see a considerable dip in stamina, which will lead to you missing your steps and falling down easier than before. The good news is that this form of poisoning is curable. All you need to do is consume an antidote and you're good to go.

However, if you're not mindful of the toxicity stacks you have and still go on consuming poisonous mushrooms like a raging monster, then it'll soon turn fatal. At this point, you will either have to wait for your friends to revive you, or you might end up scuffing the run, especially if you're running solo.
