Persona 4 Arena Ultimate released on Steam on March 17, bringing the Persona series crossover fighting game to PC for the first time. But along with the release came a few bugs. One of these causes the game to sometimes crash just before launching into matches. So, how do you fix Persona 4 Arena Ultimate crashing before matches?
The crashing issue before matches seems to be related to the full-screen settings in Persona 4 Arena Ultimate. As a result, if you try to launch into a match, the game will crash. To prevent this, you’ll need to use the Options section in the Main Menu.

In the Options menu, head to Display Settings and scroll down to Display Mode. Switch the Display Mode to either Full Window or Window Mode instead of Full Screen. Which resolution you choose doesn’t seem to affect crashing, but it will affect how clear the game looks. Click Return to save the settings.
If this doesn’t help, there may be a different issue with your computer. Double-check your installation by right-clicking the game in Steam and selecting Properties. Next, head to Local Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. If you’re still having issues, try to re-install the game completely.
Finally, if the game is still having crashing issues, double check your graphics drivers and your version of DirectX. Sometimes, crashes like this can be related to hardware issues, so make sure your computer hits the minimum system requirements. Ultimately, this is a known issue with playing the game full-screen and will hopefully will be fixed soon.
