Polteageist is a Pokémon that can set up quickly in one turn and return with Speed and a very large Special Attack the next turn in Scarlet & Violet. It has a good amount of Special Defense, making Physical moves preferable for taking it out. When battling Polteageist in Double Battles, it does its best when paired with Pokémon that can help it survive, so finding ways of lowering its stats is a viable strategy. These are all of Polteageist's strengths, weaknesses, and the best Pokémon to counter them in Scarlet & Violet.

What is Polteageist weak to in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Polteageist is a Pure Ghost Type Pokémon with very high Special Attack and Special Defense. It has two weaknesses and takes more damage on the Physical side, making Pokémon with a high Attack stat preferable for knocking it out. These are Polteageist's weaknesses:

  • Ghost - 2x
  • Dark - 2x

Polteageist's Ability, Weak Armor, will reduce its Defense stat when hit with Physical moves but it will raise its Speed stat by two stages. This makes moves like Sucker Punch and Shadow Sneak more valuable as they will ignore Polteageist's Speed to go first. Its Hidden Ability, Cursed Body, makes any attack against it have a 30% chance of being disabled for the next three turns. Having a Pokémon with multiple super effective moves may be required. Hidden Abilities can be acquired with an Ability Patch in Scarlet & Violet.

What is Polteageist immune to in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

As a pure Ghost Type, Polteageist is immune to Normal and Fighting attacks. The Ability Scrappy or the move Foresight will cause these moves to hit Ghost Types to deal neutral damage.

What is Polteageist strong against in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Ghost Types have two resistances, rounding out their weaknesses and immunities. Polteageist will take reduced damage from:

  • Poison - 1/2
  • Bug - 1/2

Polteageist's high Special Defense makes Special Attacks deal less damage to it as well so something like Bug Buzz or Sludge Bomb will barely deal any damage.

What are the best counters to Polteageist in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Honchkrow, Murkrow, and high Special Defense Pokémon like Umbreon and Arboliva are great counters to Polteageist. Honchkrow and Murkrow's Typing allow it to take reduced damage to Polteageist's Shadow Ball while being able to return their damage with their Dark STAB. Honchkrow's Sucker Punch is sure to deal a lot of damage while Murkrow can use its Prankster Ability to use Haze and remove any stat increases that Polteageist may have accumulated with Shell Smash or Nasty Plot. Umbreon and Arboliva are both slow, but possess good Special Defense to respond to Polteageist's moves.
