Can you get Greninja in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

This ninja frog has disappeared.

With the addition of Charizard and Cinderace in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, players may wonder if other starters from different generations of Pokémon will be added to the titles. This includes Greninja, which has become one of the most popular starters. This leaves the question of if you can get Froakie, Frogadier, and Greninja in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The answer is yes—Froakie, Frogadier, and Greninja have been added in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. You must either complete the Greninja Tera Raid or receive one from a trade. This is the only way to obtain the Water-type starter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to get Greninja in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

You can get Greninja by completing the Tera Raid event during its limited window or by receiving one as a trade. We have received all the Tera Raid Pokémon simply by doing surprise trades. You can likely receive one this way if you are not able to join the Greninja Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Now that Froakie, Frogadier, and Greninja are added as DLC, you will be able to catch one Greninja during the raid, but you can then breed it as much as you want. This allows you to get as many Froakies as you wish. Be prepared, as the raid will be challenging, so bring your best Pokémon.
