How Heavy Balls work and where to get them in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

That's a weird name for a Poké Ball.

Heavy Balls are one of the 14 different Poké Balls that you can find throughout Paldea in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. These illustrious Poké Balls were introduced in the second generation of games and let trainers catch wild Pokémon that are considered heavy. Depending on the Pokémon you are trying to catch, there is a catching modifier that is based on its weight.

Where to get Heavy Balls in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

If you're trying to find a Heavy Ball for yourself, check out one of these three ways:

  • Porto Marinada Auction House
    • This method is a bit random since the Auction House is unpredictable. But, you can acquire a Heavy Ball here at random times of the day for different price points.
  • Complete the Academy Ace Tournament
    • You can only unlock the Academy Ace Tournament once you've defeated all eight gym leaders and battled them a second time in a rematch. One of the many items you can earn as a reward for this tournament is the Heavy Ball.
  • Have 320 Registered Pokémon
    • As a reward for collecting 320 Pokémon in your Paldean Pokédex, you will receive a Heavy Ball. You just need to go into your Pokédex and select the X Button in order to open up your completion rewards.
