Is there fishing in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Looking to kick back and relax while fishing?

The Paldea region in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is home to many different Pokémon. With so much water on the map, you will likely be itching to get your hands on the Old, Good, and Super Rod to start fishing. This may leave you wondering if you can get a fishing rod or if there is fishing in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Can you get the Old Rod in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

No, you cannot get the Old Rod, Good Rod, or Super Rod in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet because there is no fishing mechanic. While these items and mechanics have been staples in the Pokémon series, they are not present in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This is similar to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

How to catch Water Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

While you cannot fish in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can still catch Water-type Pokémon. Some can be encountered on land, but you will need to get into the ocean to catch most. Instead of fishing, you will gain the ability to swim/surf, which allows you to encounter Pokémon in the water like you would on land.

When it comes to catching Water-type Pokémon, we recommend using the Net Ball, as it has an increased capture rate for Water and Bug-type Pokémon. Using Electric and Grass-type Pokémon will give you an edge over Water-types, as well as help with inflicting status conditions on them.
