Not every evolution in Pokémon GO is as simple as getting enough Candy and pressing the Evolve button—some Pokémon require special items to evolve, like a Dragon Scale. Here's how to get and use a Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO.
How to get a Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO
Currently, only one Pokémon evolves using the Dragon Scale in the Niantic mobile title: Gen 1 Dragon-type 'mon Seadra, who turns into Kingdra. Getting your hands on the evolution item isn't as simple as you may expect, though.
To obtain a Dragon Scale, you need to spin PokéStops. While that sounds easy enough, the drop rate is brutal at 1%—no, that's not a typo. As if that wasn't hard enough, you'll also be competing with other evolution items like the King's Rock, the Upgrade, and the Unova Stone, so it's entirely possible you'll see one of those before a Dragon Scale unless you're really lucky.
There is a way to boost your chances slightly, and that's by spinning PokéStops for seven days in a row to get the seven-day bonus, which is a guaranteed evolution item. But even then, there's no guarantee you'll get a Dragon Scale.
How to use a Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO
Once you have a Dragon Scale in hand, there's something else you need to do before you can evolve your Seadra into Kingdra, and that's to collect 100 Horsea Candy by catching and/or transferring a bunch of Horsea and Seadra.
Only then will the Evolve button appear on your Seadra's summary page. Click it, and the Pokémon will finally evolve into Kingdra using your Dragon Scale.
