How to Play Pokémon 2000 Adventure

Believe it or not, yet another Generation II game has been remade. In the year 2000, most Pokémon fans were playing through Gold or Silver while they awaited the release of Pokémon the Movie 2000. What they may not have known, though, was that there was a 3D Pokémon game available based on the movie that was lost to Pokéhistory, until now.

Instructions for playing Pokémon 2000 Adventure

There are two ways for Pokémon fans to play this game: one shorter method, and a longer, more reliable method. The steps to the shorter method are as follows:

• Install Browser using P2K4AD9.exe (for non Internet Explorer users: P2K6AD9.exe) from CYBERWORLD.zip\CYBERWORLD\Backup CD #2\apps\Pokemon\ (from archive.org)
• Download Clean Flash Player 34 found here
• Install the program
• Open Pokemon 2000 Browser as Administrator
• Find the navigation bar and type rufus10.com/p2k/game/borgs/intro.borg

The longer method will probably be the way to go if Nintendo ever shuts down this version of Pokémon 2000 Adventure. The steps for this method are as follows:

• Install Browser using P2K4AD9.exe (for non Internet Explorer users: P2K6AD9. exe) from CYBERWORLD.zip\CYBERWORLD\Backup CD #2\apps\Pokemon\ (from archive.org)
• Download and install Clean Flash Player 34 found here
• Download and install the free version of MAMP found here
• Go to archive.org and download the p2kresurrected + fixed.xip
• Extract it into the MAMP app (C:/MAMP/htdocs)
• Begin MAMP and make sure the apache server is available
• Open Pokémon 2000 Browser as Administrator
• Find the navigation bar and type in localhost/game/borgs/intro.borg

What is Pokémon 2000 Adventure?

Pokémon 2000 Adventure, in a nutshell, was a project between Nintendo and Warner Bros. To promote Pokémon the Movie 2000, Warner Bros was given some money to make content for the film. They decided the best way to do this was to create a game of their own. Trainers raise a team of six, similarly to how they do in the main series games. The twist here is that the plot structure is based on Pokémon the Movie 2000; players need to obtain three orbs, one from each of the Kanto bird trio (Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres).

Because Pokémon 2000 Adventure is similar to a genuine Pokémon experience, Nintendo claimed that it would cause brand confusion. Therefore, they issued a cease and desist, causing Pokémon 2000 Adventure to fade into obscurity. Luckily, players can enjoy the game again thanks to lost media enthusiasts Rufus10 and DoomTay. They were able to use the files of the game and render them into a playable form, which you can now access for free using the above methods.
