Where to find Magby in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Sinnoh is infamous for having a very small pool of fire Pokémon. In fact, the total number of fire types you can get before battling the Elite Four can be counted on one hand. Among those available is Magby. Magby evolves into Magmar at level 30 and then into Magmortar when traded with a Magmarizer held. This guide tells you where to find the elusive Magby.

Where to find Magby in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Unfortunately, pre-Hall of Fame, Magby is only available in Shining Pearl. You can find Magby on Route 227 and Stark Mountain, which are both located east of the Survival Area. If you’ve achieved Champion status in Brilliant Diamond, you can find Magby in the same places. If your starter isn’t Chimchar, it’s highly recommended that you add a Ponyta or Magby to your team to beef out your fire moves.

Best nature and moves for Magby

Try to catch a Hasty Magby for that nice Speed boost. A Lonely Magby is also good, since its evolutionary lines have a lot of physical Attack fire moves like Fire Punch and Flare Blitz. For gyms, Magmortar learns Fire Spin and Fire Blast, both of which you should keep.
