Project Zomboid Mechanics quick leveling guide

To level up in mechanics, you will need to repair cars or remove and install car parts. That said, you can more efficiently farm Mechanics XP by removing the following items from cars and reinstalling them:

  • Car wheels
  • Lightbulbs

You will need to start off small with the car parts listed above, as you will not be able to remove advanced parts until you gain a few levels. Focus on removing and reinstalling lightbulbs and car wheels until you level up a bit. Before you can start leveling mechanics, you will need the following tools:

  • Jack
  • Lug Wrench

If you don't know where you can find a Jack or a Lug Wrench, you can find both items in hardware stores, garages, tool cabinets, and car mechanic shops. Once you get both tools, you can then start leveling up your mechanics skills, and as you level up, you can move on to more advanced parts.

How to speed up Mechanics skill in Project Zomboid

To level Mechanics fast in Project Zomboid beyond the practical applications mentioned above, you will need to combine Reading skill books and watching VHS tapes. Reading Skill books in the game can give you a huge XP boost toward leveling your Mechanics skill. But you will need to read a total of five books in the following order:

  • Mechanics for Beginners - Levels 1 to 2
  • Mechanics for Intermediates - Levels 3 to 4
  • Advanced Mechanics - Levels 5 to 6
  • Expert Mechanics - Levels 7 to 8
  • Master Mechanics - Levels 9 to 10

Eventually, you will also need to read the Laines Auto Manuals to unlock the ability to work on certain parts of a car. Luckily, you can usually find these manuals in the same place you can find most books in Project Zomboid.
