Bloat King is a relatively early boss in Remnant 2 and despite its humorous name, this overgrown blob packs enough electricity to fry you in an instant. If Bloat King is the horror blocking your way, you'll need to know how to deal with it. Thankfully, my team and I managed to kill the beast on Nightmare difficulty, so I'll give you the winning strategy. Here's how to kill Bloat King in Remnant 2
Best tips and tricks to defeat Bloat King in Remnant 2
Bloat King is a boss that uses Shock to try and kill you. As such, the first thing you're going to want to do is to stack as much Shock Resistance as you have. Simple.
Now the fight itself requires solid execution. Bloat King is highly resistant to all damage, so targeting him is largely a waste of ammo. Instead, target the two orbs he spawns once the fight begins. Both of these will cast shock sprites that have homing properties. Avoid these and prioritize the orb that is flashing red. This is a critical matter for the fight.
When the flashing orb takes enough damage, it will detonate, causing it to take critical damage from all sources. To compensate, the orb will begin flying around the room very quickly, making it difficult to hit. Deal as much damage as you possibly can to this orb during this time. The amount of time you have is limited here, as Bloat King will eventually absorb the orb back into itself for a sequence of powerful electric attacks. At the same time, however, a portion of the total damage dealt to the orb will reflect onto Bloat King. This is how you will deplete its health.

Let's talk about those empowered electric attacks. When he absorbs the orb, Bloat King will begin charging up electricity for two types of moves:
- Lightning Strike - Instantly strikes a player for critical damage. Dodge or break line of sight with Bloat King to avoid this.
- Lightning Beam - Fires a massive electric beam that does increasing damage over time the longer you take damage from it. Simply run away from this to avoid it.
Both moves look similar during the charge phase, but the tell for Lightning Beam is when Bloat King's tendrils start to freak out. If you see this, keep running, and don't try to dodge. Bloat King can do these two moves in rapid succession up to three times. Additionally, if you're playing with a group, all three attacks will target only one player per sequence. Rinse and repeat this strategy, and Bloat King will fall.
Additional Mechanics during the fight
The fight takes place on several elevated platforms with a swamp-like floor in between them. You'll want to remain on these platforms for the entire fight. Falling into the swamp will spawn several small electric adds that will continue to spawn the longer you remain there. Look for a ladder to equip back onto the elevated platforms. Ideally, you should never have to deal with this if you avoid falling down into the swamp. The adds will not follow you and have no bearing on the fight at all. They exist to kill you if you remain there.
