It's not only about survival, but also about fishing in 99 Nights in the Forest. We’ve put together this guide that will tell you about all the fish in the game, where to buy the fishing gear, how to upgrade it, and everything else you should know before playing 99 Nights in the Forest.
How to Get A Fishing Rod in 99 Nights in the Forest?

You can get the fishing rod for free from the fishing gear hut that spawns on the map once you upgrade your campfire to Level 2. The building has a giant blue fish icon and has three blue flags on its roof.
Go to the hut and enter through the door. You’ll see a bunch of Old Rods on the right from the door. Just pick one up and use it to start fishing in the pond outside.
When a fishing rod is equipped, you’ll see a fishing rod XP bar appear on your screen. As you catch fish, you’ll earn fishing rod XP. When the bar is full, your rod will start glowing. Head back into the hut and go left to find the Upgrade Bench. Equip the fishing rod and press E to upgrade your fishing rod for free.
There are three rods in 99 Nights in the Forest right now:
- Old Rod.
- Good Rod.
- Strong Rod.
There is no way to get the Good Rod or Strong Rod directly. You have to start with the Old Rod from the fishing hut, earn fishing rod XP, and then upgrade it to the Good Rod and then to the Strong Rod. The Pelt Trader will also sometimes have an Old Rod in stock.
To get the best out of your fishing rod, upgrade it quickly, and catch tons of fish, use the new Fisherman class (50 Diamonds) that starts of with a Rod from the start.

- Equip your rod and go near a body of water.
- Click on the pond to cast the rod.
- If a fish gets hooked, two bars will appear on your screen.
- The right bar shows the strength of the hook. On the left, you’ll see another bar with a moving cursor and a static green area.
- Whenever the moving cursors hit the static green area, click your mouse or tap the screen (for mobile players) to strengthen the hook.
- Repeat the process until the right bar fills up and the fish comes out of the pond.
